Snipe Hunting...

Featured Replies

Watched an old movie last night with Robert Mitchum called 'Home From the Hill'.  An excellent flick.

Near the beginning of the movie they took a young guy out on a snipe hunt.  It was beautifully done.  Boy, did that bring back memories.  I've been on a few snipe hunts myself.  Some of you old timers might remember them.  I wonder if they still go out on snipe hunts?  I doubt it unless there is a computer game called 'Snipe Hunt'.  But what would be the point of that?

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Wow...the memories. I've also been on a few snipe hunts over the years. I really enjoyed the challenge(s). Especially when my kids were old enough to go along.....Doug

Oh, the memories of YMCA Summer camp in Big Pines, California!  There was always a snipe hunt going on!

Sometimes I have doubts about the efficacy of Snipe Dynasty bird callers..

Heh-heh-heh.  How many times did you hold the sack Doug?

I just googled what this is. If I'm right and you guys are referring to what I think you are, then it's going on a hunt, flushing out innocent birds callad Snipes and killing them with a gun.

If so, I find myself very disturbed that you guys could enjoy killing animals.

Especially you Noel, a person that's a bird lover.

Sorry if I've got this wrong.

Well, you might try it first, before you knock it...

Cheers from someone who hasn't eaten meat since 1998, but would probably go along on a Snipe hunt

I don't have to try killing animals to know I wouldn't enjoy it.

And if somebody does... no comment.

I held the sack often when I was younger. But once I reached 80 my back took a turn for the worse and now I let the younger folks do it.....Doug

Success was all about what you chose to put in the bag for bait! I had my cousins convinced that red grapes were the best!

It also matters what you say when calling the Snipe. I think this sequence works best as it closely resembles the Snipe's mating call:

"Here Snipe. Here Snipe. Here Snipe, Snipe Snipe".
