How to get GA traffic when using AIG

Featured Replies

I posted this on AIG's forums but I understand that not everyone has an account there. I had also posted this in the 80 something page thread about AIG here were it's hard for some to find, so I'm giving it it's own thread.

This works with AIG Offline injected traffic.

Get the download at https://flightsim.to/file/6787/offline-ai-traffic-stock-traffic-bgl-fix

Install the "offline_ai_traffic_ga_fixed" traffic folder/files from the mod download into your community folder (Do not install the "offline_ai_traffic_airliner_fixed").

Locate the layout.json in your fs-base-ai-traffic folder inside the official folder and replace it with the layout.json file from the download's official section. Note: if you don't do this then stock traffic (including stock airliner) will still show up or, if you allowed aig to change the stock traffic file name, you will get CTDs. Changing the layout.json with the one from the download fixes both issues.

Don't worry about anything else from the download, you only need those two things.

In MSFS options turn offline traffic on. It must be on for the GA to show up.

The above removes the stock MSFS airliner traffic while adding back in the GA traffic. This allows AIG injected to handle the airliners while the mod adds back the GA. The traffic slider in MSFS controls the amount of GA traffic while the Traffic Slider in AIG-TC controls the AIG Airliner traffic amount. Note that the mod includes 3 layout.json files in the official section (one is a back-up of the stock msfs one if you want to go back). Only use the one actually named "layout.json".

Just a note that SU8 changed the layout.json so you might want to put the one in from the mod again after updating to SU8.

Actually, you can just open the one from MSFS (after making a copy) and edit out the aircraft traffic from it. After SU8 it looks like the following:

{
  "content": [
    {
      "path": "scenery/world/traffic/fs10.AircraftTypes.csv",
      "size": 4888,
      "date": 132379022900000000
    },
    {
      "path": "scenery/world/traffic/trafficAircraft.bgl",
      "size": 39886187,
      "date": 132878390140000000
    },
    {
      "path": "scenery/world/traffic/trafficBoats.bgl",
      "size": 1716075,
      "date": 132387798760000000
    }
  ]
}

Save a copy as a backup, then edit it to read:

{
  "content": [
    {
      "path": "scenery/world/traffic/fs10.AircraftTypes.csv",
      "size": 4888,
      "date": 132379022900000000
    },
    {
      "path": "scenery/world/traffic/trafficBoats.bgl",
      "size": 1716075,
      "date": 132387798760000000
    }
  ]
}

Thanks Phantoms, I use this work-around and it works perfectly. Best of both worlds. Recommend it for all AIG’ers.

This is worth to be pinned in the tips and tricks forum.

What I observed and dont know if it is due to a wrong setting somewhere in my case: the stupid MSFS AI engine still takes models from AIG to be used as GA traffic when doing this, resulting in some weird situations like the FedEx Cessna 208 from AIG being used as GA traffic. I guess this is one of the small drawbacks we have get along with until they got their AI engine sorted, but it is sadly slightly immersion-killing...

There are still a few bugs to iron out. My worst one is seeing an AI flip paint schemes on the Ramp. One moment it is Emirates, the next Qantas. These are mostly sim bugs with the AI engine that only Asobo can fix.

Getting some CTD's while flying.   I have the MSFS traffic setting to 5 and AI Offline.   I am using AIG TC along with AI Companion.  Conflicts?

I think AIG has said they've started adding in some GA (not little family flights, but small planes and jets). This may explain it and hopefully they continue to the point that a separate GA mod is not needed.

James

Normally I would spring on this mod/idea immediately but I think I might wait for AIG. Supposedly, they will add this in the future. Not sure though.

In the meantime, I fly with 100% traffic from AIG but also fly with "ALL" players in the sim as well.

It adds all the traffic from AIG (obviously) and the complete mess that is a multiplayer.  🙂   It does add some realism of GA aircraft. I obviously turn off name tags so I don't see ridiculous names while I'm flying.

Have you made sure you modified the layout.json in the fs-base-ai-traffic folder? That was a cause of CTDs for me as AIG changed the traffic file name without editing the layout..json so msfs was still looking fr it.

If you've done that, then have you tried disabling AIG companion to see if the CTDs still happen? Tried disabling the mod and seeing if they happen? If they do then move AIG out of the community folder (both the AIG OCI and the extra CVT file) to see if you still get CTDs. Need to narrow it down to what you have causing it.

James

Thanks.  I will try this and report back.

Yea its something to do with AI Companion.   Thanks.

This fix is only for those that use AIG-TC injected traffic (which uses AIG Flight Plans) and want GA put back in.

If you're using Realtime traffic then there is no need for this fix. With Real Time traffic MSFS controls/adds both GA and Commercial traffic while AIG only supplies the liveries to match most commercial flights. Used this way AIG-TC and AIG flightplans are not used.

So the GA traffic is just random with this fix?

@MrBitstFlyer

The GA traffic in the mod was copied from the Stock MSFS offline traffic, separated from Airliner traffic and a few issues were fixed (according to mod author). So it's basically the same GA traffic that you'd have if you used stock MSFS offline traffic, just without the airliners (which AIG-TC handles).
