I have it too and I like it, but I have my doubts, that other GB regions will follow. I have the feeling that it was just a trial balloon. ORBX sceneries are like a rag rug, here some scenery, there some mesh, dappled with some airports and cities. I'd rather like to see that they would focus a bit more on greater regions like they did with former sim add-ons. Bu that's just my wish. Things have obviously changed with the new sim.

Whilst there seem to be significant improvements, why is that stadium in Manchester at 5:41 as flat as a pancake? Surely a massive football stadium like that should be a prominent 3D model?

That's the new ORBX. The old ORBX had the Base Textures Pack, next FTX Global Vector, following OpenLC planned for the whole of the World but never completed, then mesh (referring to FS Global) and the FTX or later True Earth regions imbedded for important areas, and the airports were the icing on the cake, and it all fit together. Long-term simmers may recall the FTX ("Full Terrain Experience") Definitive Guide (with the nice logo instead of the dull X) explaining the unified approach. I enjoyed this very much.

This is still working in Prepar3d, of course, but the new World of MSFS is indeed fuzzy and scattered, as you note. I understand base scenery not being required as such but for me, as a mostly VFR pilot, connected detailed regions with several airports, bigger and smaller alike, not too far from each other, with accompanying city/POI packs would be much preferred.

Kind regards, Michael

I swear the City stadium is actually in the sim - I can't remember if Orbx added it or MSFS did. Maybe something isn't installed correctly or I'm misremembering.

But only at first glance. If you look at the amount of landscape correction files you can find of Flightsim.to that fix mistakes like misplaced or missing trees, coastlines and sandbanks or the abysmal vector data for rivers in some parts of the world, then it is clear that regional packs like they used to do them in FSX and P3D still are definately needed.

The difference is that they don't have to bother about the landclass, but fixing all the errors in the data and misinterpretations of Blackshark AI is still something needed.

I saw these, but I generally decided to skip them so far. The time to download, install, update, bug-track and -fix etc. all of those addons, usually for tiny areas, would exceed the time I can spare for the sim. I find it's in the ballpark of Asobo to fix these, and until they do, I live with what I get out of the box.

Global addons like We love VFR in one package are different, of course. And yes, if ORBX would offer corrected vector data on a per-country base I would certainly buy them. And returning to the OP, I still hope they continue work on the remaining parts of GB.

Kind regards, Michael

Me too. I doubt that ASOBO will ever do anything about this since many of these lie in areas that already received a World Update. Which goes to show they do not do the thorough work that guys like Holger Sandmann did for ORBX in the regional packages. And that is exactly why I think these kinds of packages are still needed.

What I'd like to see is improved photogrammetry for building in the sim and an end to auto gen altogether except trees.

I'd see a day when photogrammetry is powerful enough and intelligent enough to make facsimiles of every building you see

and fix the geometry. I don't see why any landmark building in the sim like a football stadium would be flat as a pancake on the ground

unless is was in such an obscure area that Bing didn't have any photogrammetry data.
