Would be grateful for some help on MSFS Install

Hello all

I have taken the plunge now and purchased MSFS 2020 from the steam store. I just need confirmation that I am doing the correct procedures as I am not conversant with Steam.

I paid for the Deluxe Version and it appeared in my library.

I pressed the big blue Install button and it downloaded and installed the launcher about 800 MB. Once done I selected MSFS on steam and the install button had changed to PLAY.  I pressed that and another window popped up with MSFS and it asked me to log onto my Xbox account which I did. This window was labelled Installation Manager and 1 of 5. I changed the destination of download to a new SSD 1TB in size the E drive and the destination folder was MSFS which I had created. The download commenced with a standard content image and the size of the download was119GB. does the deluxe content follow on?

I am half way through the download which is taking an age due to only having a download speed of 10mbps.

Am I correct in saying the downloaded files will be in my E drive and in the MSFS folder when it is complete. What do I do next, will it ask me to install the files and will I get a choice of where I can put them. Do I have to find an executable to actually install the simulator or will it launch the full install process automatically.

Sorry for my ignorance but a helpful instruction of what happens next would be of much relief to me as i do not want to have to repeat this painful process and spend another 35 hours downloading.

Kind regards

yep  what you  have  said   above  sounds  right,  bought  it  from steam also downloaded  it   and  when  i clicked   msfs icon  it   asked  me  where  on  wanted  to install it,  where  i  installed  it  to my  third  drive. It  will take awhile  to  download  and  install   you  will know  you have  done  it  correctly  once downloaded.

Yeah once that part is all installed there should be more (hurray) downloads once you get to the Content Manager and some free ones in the world update section of the marketplace (or content manager can't remember where it is exactly)

Hello both

Just a quick tank you for your input and everything went well. As Ryan said i did have some stuff in content manager and i am updating those gradually. MSFS is running very well and I have done a few flights in the Cessna 172 which i am endorsed on in real life flying. Not bad but A2A is better lol. The scenery in MSFS is outstanding though and i have flown around my local area which very much depicts flights I have done in real life so very pleased.

Thanks again for your input.

Kind regards

If you are flying any G1000 version, make sure that you get the free WT G1000 NXi from the Marketplace.  It is 3x better than the default.

Hello everyone and Turbomax thank you all once again for your help.

So World update 8 is here and being new to Steam and MSFS if possible can someone give me a idiots guide to how to update World update 8 for the MSFS Steam version.

A step by step guide right from the start would be most useful especially what to expect after each step.

Coming from P3d where updates and everything is fairly automatic I do find MSFS somewhat bewildering.

Any help would be much appreciated. To be honest it is so good to be able to ask you more experienced users.

Kind regards from sunny Australia

I am not sure how you get the initial update in Steam. In the MS version you need to go to the Windows Xbox app.

Once you do get the initial update installed and the game to run you still need to do a few things:

  • there will be updates in your content manager you need to install
  • for some reason the Spain etc scenery is optional. To install the Spain/Portugal etc part of the up date you need to go to the "free" addon section of the marketplace and tell your game to "get" the Spain scenery etc

I have read many posts mentioning the XBox app. I do not have (and never have had) the XBox app installed on my PC at any point since the release of MSFS, and have never had an issue downloading any sim update.

The Microsoft Store will typically auto-update MSFS on a scheduled update release day, but occasionally if I launch the store right after the release time, I have to click on “search for updates”.

It does seem different installs work differently. No idea why, may depend on the date you got the game.

On my system "searching for updates" in the store fails to do anything useful but starting the XBox gaming app (not the XBox toolbar) which for me appears in the start menu programs, works every time.

Count yourself lucky then that you don't have to use the Xbox app. I never wanted to have to install the Xbox app on my PC. After I first bought and installed MSFS when it first was released, the Xbox app wasn't required for any of the process (just the MS Store). Then, if memory serves, when the first World Update or Sim Update was released, the only way I could install it was having to install that stupid Xbox app. Ever since then, whenever a WU or SU is released, I have to open up that friggin' Xbox app, sign out, then sign back in before it will let me update MSFS. I just don't understand why the MS Store is not enough and they make several of us have to use that Xbox app.
