I use it in VR, very handy tool and well worth the price, no FPS impact for me

Sounds good, I might give it a go. Thanks for replying!

No FPS impact for me, even when I make the window quite large.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I use FS-FlightControl which has many features. It is payware but offers quite a bit for the money.

None whatsoever 👍

+1 for sky4sim here.

This looks fully featured.

I have Pilot2ATC that has some maps on it but the VFR maps have been outdated, I think. There are several options for other maps and these are pretty good. Most seem to be up to date.

I use this, too, and it's really excellent, but only with my hardware panel and and a networked laptop. It's not VR-enabled (for a reason, it's not so much intended as a moving map but an instructor station).

Several - but not all - of the tools (likeSky4Sim and LittleNavmap) require to start an external sever app in advance of the sim which you may or may not forget. In this case you have to Alt-Tab and change to the Desktop to start that app. Even then, some require the server app to have been started before going into the flight for full functionality e.g. displaying the flight plan (don't recall which one from head, I bought and tried several of these tools). If you really settled with one of the tools (I didn't yet) you may find a way to autostart the server app with the sim, though.

Kind regards, Michael

Little Navmap can be started before or after the sim, provides full functionality either way.  I believe it can be set to autolaunch with the sim too (or the sim with it, I forget).  Very fast launching app too, if that's helpful.

It works great as either. In the map view if you select "center aircraft" then it will stay with the aircraft making it a moving map. You can have as much or as little detail on the map as you want (satellite, height, street, waypoints, other aircraft, weather stations, airspace, airways, taxiways, ILS, VOR/DME, etc., etc.) and even do measurements. If you create your flightplan outside of it in MSFS itself, then you can save that flightplan and import it in and it will show the flightplan over the map too. There are so many features in the program that I don't use half of them (and sometimes forget they're there).

My sig states I am a beta test of FS-FlightControl, thus I know its functions. I just wanted to point out why it's not developed into a VR-enabled menu bar plugin (like e.g. Sky4Sim) at this time but focusses on other features like, e.g., positioning the plane in several training positions or failure simulation.

And believe me, it's used as an instructor station for managing really big Prepar3d training setups.

Kind regards, Michael

Thanks for all the suggestions!  As a side note, I think I got my Flight Sim Discovery plugin working again.  It wasn't auto-logging in while flying, but I realized a file needed editing.  Now, it seems to be working normally.

I can't live without sky4sim. It's a paid addon but well worth the money. Does everything you're looking for and then some.

Bought it pretty much on day 1 and am more than satisfied.

I have now paid a little price to use Sky4Sim and I think it is really worth it.  It can also be brought up in the sim by pressing the 'V' button (replaces the standard Asobo map).
I am very happy with it for the price.  If anyone really needs something like this, i recommend that they check out the website.  I wouldn't be without it now.

Same here.
