Large AI lights

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have noticed recently that all the AI aircraft seem to have oversized lights, which can be seen from miles away.

At a distance I can see large green or red blobs, which is unrealistic.

Are there any mods to improve the lights like there used to be with FS9?

Report it to Adobo so that they can fix the scaling.

Is everyone finding the same problem? I was worried that it could just be something on my system, but hopefully not?

We all see it.

It seems like the lights in MSFS do not scale with distance. They're either on - at full size - or far enough away that they don't load. This is why airports are visible from ridiculous distances, where in real life they'd blend in with the city at day or appear as a black spot at night.

I'd be interested to see someone do a comparison of aircraft strobe lights or runway shoulder lights up close, and then from the maximum render distance, and compare the pixels taken on the screen.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

I actually noticed this on my last flight and I chalked it up to the time of day (think it was early evening). Basically, I thought it was just an effect of that specific moment when the daylight was changing. I will have to see if it happens on my next flight. Currently, I am in the process of downloading the new WU8, so can't check just yet.

I made a post about this and reported it to MS/Asobo awhile back. The lights on AI planes look like red, green, white squares and look extremely ugly at certain angle or distances. It's been awhile but I really hope they can improve upon them.

I hate them too.. and it is shame I cannot provide a solution like I did for P3D due to limitations with the effect system.

I use this mod. Light sizes look better from far. You could try it.
