Low hanging fruit ?

Featured Replies

People obsess with this sim at many different levels and intensities.  It shows engagement, that people are interested in how the product evolves and want to influence how it improves.

It leaves Asobo endlessly triaging new stuff and bug fixes, which is fine, but I do wonder if they could deck two very long running "features" that many new users will sooner or later notice as bugs.

The first is the music.  If you specify the music to be "off" it still bursts through twice - for a second or so - as the sim loads. It's been doing this ever since being able to turn off the music was an option.

The second is the marshalling guy whose right hand baton disappears every time you just get to stopping at a gate.  Slightly frustrating by itself but also because in the first iteration of MSFS this didn't happen; the marshal never lost a baton.

I honestly don't know if these items would be quickly & easily fixable i.e. if they're "low hanging fruit" type items from a developer perspective.  If they are I just wish Asobo would get to them as I experience them continually.

Don't get me wrong, for me these are just niggles (albeit frequently occurring ones).

I'm really loving the sim experience still 😀.

Some of these things are kind of placeholders for something better coming--they're not terrible, but they're not yet refined/debugged/optimized, and that even goes for something as huge as cloud depiction and more.  My sense is when they get there they will absolutely address the various niggles, but they have big fish they are frying constantly right now w/ developing the SDK, World Updates, and some of those Sim Updates will eventually get to these types of this I have absolutely no doubt.   If you and I can see these things can you imagine people who are constantly working on it, make a change, seeing how that impacts all of its dependencies, and so forth.  They have a schedule of priorities and have to be very careful how they proceed.  We all should fully appreciate the current state of the entire product, with its already robust 3rd party content providers, its aggressive deployment of World Updates, is so far past the other sims in their 25y histories.  Sure, there are a bucket full of littler things but they will get resolved and probably quicker than we might guess once the big items are stabilized.

I could see why some would think that two seconds of music could cause them to have a nervous breakdown or smash their PC to bits with a 20 pound sledge hammer. . 😉

Sim Update 9 fixes the initial few seconds of music playing, because it now downloads your settings profile from the Xbox servers while the splash logos are being presented, rather than later. However, it still plays for a split second in the middle of the loading process.

And in case people aren't aware, it also cuts the amount of time required from clicking the icon to the application booting in half. Although it took long, they finally took the time to make the loading process feel a little snappier. You can enjoy these benefits by joining the beta.

How long the login music plays before your no-music setting is applied is a good indicator of the internet speed to come ingame.

Just an FYI, there is a mod on Flightsim.to that restores the missing marshaller baton. https://flightsim.to/file/29241/marshallers-baton-is-back

Yes, the low hanging fruit does seem easy to harvest, particularly because as the years roll by the fruit tends to hang lower😉
