Night Lites - Better?

I’m talking ALPHA. Before it was out. I’ll have to check but don’t think much because of NDA. But was amazing in Alpha. Even if you watch some early videos you can see. Yes they improved it after they nerfed it. It’s better than that. Even the light spread and variation in Alpha was better.

Well that's ultimately a good thing because it proves it can be amazing, and of course begs questions.  It would be interesting to learn why it was changed.

Yep sure can be the engine has a lot of potential. Maybe if they open up the code that alters night lighting, third party devs can make a masterpiece out of it.

This is the common explanation for anything that has deteriorated graphically.  I think as hardware performance capability increases over the next 8y we will see improvements in graphic quality and detail, including from Bing data, in MSFS.  I'd love to see what is being called amazing in the alpha that is not present in night lighting currently if anyone has a link.  Couldn't find anything on YT myself.

The thing is they don't need 3rd party devs to make a masterpiece out of it--you said they already did.  What I had hoped to see early on was two pathways, one for Xbox and one for PC, perhaps done by a different set of sliders that appear for each platform.   Seems doubtful this will happen now so may have to wait for PC and Xbox hardware to improve.

What about The large cities that have no lights on the buildings.  That needs to be fixed

I like the night lighting in MSFS, but for one major issue; highways going through empty countryside, deserts even, and yet illuminated by street lights.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

Wow, was that the alpha, or the initial release?  I'll do the same flight a little later and compare.  Pretty impressive overall but I do not remember that myself on the initial release.

I wasn’t in the alpha. This was the initial release.

Don’t get me wrong, I think what Microsoft and Asobo have achieved is astonishing but frankly we’ve lost a lot of things along the way that made that initial release astonishing.

Have you done this same flight now, in Manhatten?  Perhaps Manhatten got special treatment over many/most other places.  I was night flying in the first release and I recall some genuine misgivings about night lighting that i posted on the MSFS forum within the first few months of MSFS.

If i recall the lighting was constantly changed over the initial first year due to constantly being upvoted on the MSFS forum. Be careful for what you wish for.

I haven’t done very much night flying at all since they decided to give every country road in the world street lighting.

That kinda ruined it for me. It’s just daft right now.
