I use chase Plane and wondered what your preferred zoom level is when in the cockpit..

 

At present I run 0.4..

Even though I don’t use Chaseplane (I use EZdok) my current cockpit zoom level is 0.70.

0.70 at cruise, 0.80 for takeoff and landing, especially in IMC.

How would you know?

I watched a very good video last year about determining the correct zoom setting. It’s related to the aspect ratio of your display.

So with a 16:9 display I’ve set the zoom to 0.56. Divide 9 by 16 and the result is 0.56.

I’ve applied it to all four of my aircraft and the view of the VC is spot on.

OK, I see it now, under Controls.

I think this is the video that you referred to Ray, correct?

What I find nice about this video is the references to photography which I can relate to.

Note: The YT creator discusses zoom settings and aspect ratios as it relates to FSX but since P3D employs the same principles and settings, this approach can still be applied.

 

When I listened to this and given I have a 3440x1440 monitor, I turned WideAspectView ON and set my zoom to 1.0 in P3D.

It is Mark. 👍 Try 0.42 with WideAspectView = Off.

Ray, so which do you use?  .56 with WAV on, or .42 with WAV off?

I’m in a different country to my PC at present. I use 0.56 with WAV Off. I have a 16:9 aspect ratio monitor. It’s that which determines the zoom value.

Being away from my computer I can’t check my settings. Do you mean in respect of the viewpoint of the captain’s eye position relative to the forward view?

I like the .56 setting for the VC and the wing views.  I prefer a .70 for spot view, and there is no way I can get away with turning WAV off.  I tried it and the VC view inside is gargantuan!  I would have to reduce it significantly to feel that it's realistic.  

@spilok, I’ll let you know on Wednesday what my settings are.
