The glaring Achilles Heel of MSFS...their servers...

Featured Replies

I have a 1 GB download speed, and now,  for the last half hour,  no matter where I try to fly,  I get YOU HAVE TOO LOW BANDWIDTH,  SWITCHING YOU TO OFF LINE MODE.

Yeah right...

This is the true fatal of MSFS...you need to be live to a server...and here is the result...M.S. can't handle the current demand...

Might not be MSFS server, the data travels via the internet, and any path along the way, can slow the data down, kind of like the weakest link in the chain.

My issue was not logging off of the MS 2020 Map Enhancement application.Otherwise, It leaves entry's somewhere that will cause this.

What is this map enhancement thing you speak of?

FAA: ATP-ME, 737 CA, enough time in the 757/767 to be dangerous 🤠

I said, very early on, that streaming would be the Achilles heel of MSFS and it was glossed over in the excitement.

Turn off Rolling Cache, since doing so I haven't experienced that annoying notification!

Hi Sham...no rolling cache ever on...the constant  You have blah, blah was around using MSFS between 5 PM and 6:30 PM yesterday afternoon.  A lot of folks were test flying the update...

I think that maybe they (M.S.) have reached their on-line 'live stream' saturation as per their current Servers and everybody downloading the update, and then trying it out...killed it off... yesterday afternoon and evening....

Yes, that is/was true at the first few updates,  but I think the author has that now covered and corrected.  I only had on one occasion  the M.S. Bing Server, and it still would not stay connected yesterday.

Wow, this is a Sky is Falling thread.  I fly all the time, morning, afternoon and sometimes in the evening. I had one problem a couple of days ago where I had some disconnects, it was posted on the FS forum that they had a problem for a few hours. Since then it has been fine.

Indeed--whoopdeedoodaday.  Since launch now getting in the neighborhood of 2y ago, the % of the time streaming has been an issue is less than 0.01%.  That Achilles Heel is also the Sine Qua Non aspect of MSFS but far more important for this particular issue:  did you notice ANYTHING significantly different while you were in OFFLINE mode?  I never do, and usually w/in short order it's back online.

The few times I have been in offline mode, it usually returns in about 5 seconds. not too much time to notice anything different.

Thankfully, there are flight sim choices available for those who continue to have problems with streaming. Others wouldn't go back to those earlier generation, static depictions of "plausible" worlds on a bet. To each his/her own.

Hope it all works out for everyone.

Yea, I have to agree with this. In 900 hours on the game over the past 2 years I would say that streaming affected about an hour of that time. In fact, I am pretty impressed at how well optimized the streaming component is and how few problems it gave me. And, even if it was ten times worse, I would still be more than happy with what this offers in regard to  the MSFS world in comparison to the land class approach of earlier technology.
