Long Haul in a PMDG 737-700 BBJ

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I just wanted to share my experience doing a long haul in the PMDG BBJ, as the title suggests. You can add a bunch of auxiliary fuel tanks in this variant that will give you about a 6,000nm range. Currently, this is by far the longest range available from any good payware aircraft. Today, I did a flight from BIKF (Keflavik, Iceland) to VRMM (Male, island in the Indian Ocean). The route was about 5,000nm and I needed about 70,000 pounds of fuel, which is just enough in this variant. The trip would take about 11 hours, however -- I opted to do a 4x time compression, which works flawlessly in the PMDG 737.

It was the first time I've done a long haul like this in MSFS and I really enjoyed it. With the time compression, it took me a little over 3 hours and every worked super smoothly. I'm not sure if you guys are doing flights like this in this plane, and if so, would also like to hear what you guys think.

Did the time compression affect your fuel consumption? When I have done this in the past (not with PMDG 737) the fuel consumption seemed to remain at 1x.

I've done time compression with the DA62 NGX and can definitely say that it behaved as it should, i.e. fuel was also consumed at an accelerated rate.

Changed to NGX

I've done this once or twice in the BBJ, and both times I started suffering from the crippling drop in FPS after 5 or 6 hours in the sim - perhaps I should try with time compression

It's disappointing as long haul is the main reason I bought the 737-700...

It's also a shame we don't yet have the cabin modelled as part of the aircraft interior, as it would be awesome to go back and sit in one of those luxury seats during cruise!!

It's worth remembering that you can save and reload the flight in the PMDG 737 models and it will correctly restore all the aircraft parameters.

From the introduction PDF:

Save/Load from the MSFS menu: You can also conduct save/load operations from the MSFS menu. The PMDG 737 will intercept the save/load function and create both the MSFS save file and the PMDG 737 panel save file for you using the name you select. You will then be able to load your flight and panel state from the MSFS menu as well and the airplane condition will be just as you left it.

This includes being in the middle of a flight.

I'll buy it if and when PMDG fixes the issues.

One caveat about the PMDG load/save feature: If you load a flight that was saved from an earlier build of the aircraft it may not restore correctly or even CTD.

Try the FS 'Jump To' feature where you arrive a few miles from top of decent.  Very handy as it saves time...

Works great with the BBJ as well.

Hey all. Can anyone tell me if they have the reflections/ scratches on the windows inside the cabin of the BBJ? Not sure if I messed up my files tweaking camera views.

My normal -700 variant has the reflections and scratches, but with the BBJ it seems as if there's nothing in the windows. Just more or less and empty hole to the outside.

Thanks
