August 16, 20223 yr I’ve seen a lot of interesting weather yesterday and today over Scotland. Massive cloud buildup, haze, high altitude cirrus-like clouds, haze, fog… Don’t think the cloud variety has changed that much though. But weather is pretty much spot on when compared to weather sites like windy.com. Just had an interesting approach into Sumburgh, Shetland with cloud base of 1000ft, heavy rain and wind speed of over 20kts. As part of my round the world trip in the Cessna 414. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

Indeed. Much of the weather depiction is dependent on the data modeling being streamed into the engine, not only the rendering engine itself, hence REX supposedly looks better despite the fact it's using Asobo's cloud rendering technology (although as well I think preset engine and live engine must be different, with the former being easier to control depiction, which is what REX is tapping into). So, yes, Asobo can improve live weather server-side (no code update required) as well as by tweaking the engine itself (does require an update).

August 16, 20223 yr It's amazing how MSFS continues its relentless drive towards continuous improvement. Not long ago I was wondering if texture detail had taken a turn for the worse and in the last several times up I've been blown away by just how crisp and excellent lighting and textures are, just fabulous flying into KSFO this morning I was struck by just how real the whole flight was from KSAN to KSFO. Lighting used to be better in my opinion and clouds had more substance. Now, although the overall layout of the puffs is fine, those puffs are usually flat transparent and oddly both blurry and with hard cut edges sometimes. There just aren't enough well rounded fair weather cumulus puffs. And I don't care for Asobo's representation of scattered thunderstorms (which no longer have any lightning at all). I'm not sure what I would do different though. On the bright side, flying from Miami toward the Florida west coast yesterday, I saw some really nice rain shafts coming from nice cumulus at one point. | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. August 16, 20223 yr Wow look, I had the same weather as you guys! Must be a global phenomenon. Oh no, explosions on the ground! Dazzling cirrus(?)! ... The live weather engine is a mashup of the same cookie cutter clouds over and over and people are too blinded by filters and rain to see it. What a sad state of affairs.

Not quite sure if I get your point. Of course the weather engine is far from perfect. But it sure beats the other sims. And it keeps improving. I wonder if your expectations are a bit unrealistic? From REX Skyforce 3D 9-18-2018 2D clouds that do a better job of orienting themselves towards you as you fly past. What MSFS is tying to achieve is organically forming the correct cloud types in actual 3D. Anyone can make convincing looking clouds if they're 2D. The illusion gets destroyed when you have to bank around them. I could see clouds rotating in the video! Clouds morphing? You can forget about it because they're just photos spinning around. As Matt from WT said, in order for us to get volumetric clouds looking like that with all the cloud types, it will take groundbreaking work with various studios working together across the video game industry to make it happen. Yeah of course it does, what an easy cop out. Focusing on MSFS here, my expectations were met with the initial live weather engine. Now I don't know what it is. Quote As Matt from WT said, in order for us to get volumetric clouds looking like that with all the cloud types, it will take groundbreaking work with various studios working together to make it happen. Fluff that really means there is no money in it for them so why spend resources on it. Interesting watching people speak before and after they become employed by MS. 2 hours ago, Noel said: You might try one of the new SSRI's... Oh the irony...
