Just a fast driver tip...

Featured Replies

Due to sourcing out a problem with my log screen showing black...and a suggestion it was/could be the vid driver I was using...(was using the latest W10/W11)..., I decided to try a legacy driver suite.  I searched out a few forums to see which one might be recommended.  A few forums had great review results for:

nVidia 446.14,  so I did a search and found the driver suite.

With the latest suite I was getting 29-30 FPS in MSFS.

I installed  446.14  and without scrubbing,   and after rebooting and then running MSFS, I have boosted my on average FPS to 34-36 on a GTX 1070 (non Ti).

So, in just installing this very recommended  older/legacy driver suite, I picked up over a 10 percent FPS mean average increase.   Those recommending this driver suite also said that it was the smoothest (stutter...glitch etc) suite that they have/had ever used, and if your whatever card can be run by it, highly recommended.  For sure, I'm sticking with it... 🙂

With any 30xx card, you might need to stick with the newest versions...but if you have a card similar to mine....no harm to download and try it.   You will NOT find this version on the nVidia Driver 'older/beta' down drop...you need to  do a 446.14 search on Google, and you will find it to download, as I did.

Thanks Ses!  I have a 3080Ti but I am getting black screens flash up occasionally in the MSFS menus (it almost seems like a GPU driver reset from a crash, as they take about 3 seconds).

I never had this before, so I might go back a driver or two, or even take up your suggestion of 446.14.

A problem I do see is if they fix the DX12 problem, it might require the latest NVidia driver unless Asobo can do it in the sim.

Careful, sounds like placebo or just variable testing conditions to see those kind of gains. Going back that many drivers also means you leave massive security holes in your PC, as there's been some major and critical security flaws fixed in Nvidia drivers over the years.

No placebo Seth...removed the current,  installed the driver...ran MSFS...and got that FPS gain...no other settings were changed in sim, or on the computer...OR...in the driver mask.  Pure increase...and the guys on the forums raved about this suite, for that fact...great performance...visual, FPS, and the least stutter.  If your card can run with it...from my use...highly recommended.  For myself...I'm no longer going driver hunting for my 1070.   This has been the best...of all of them...past, and current.  Placebo?   Uh uh...not with the FPS counter supplying the results...as I taxi, take off, fly, and land, back to taxi...  A driver suite Winner!  Oh...and about any security flaws...I'll take the chance...lol.

Right...regarding DX12...but for now, with my running DX11....this (as those on the forum stated...) has been the best driver suite I have used...from since installing my 1070.    I could have even used it when it came out...but like a hound dog....have always wanted to try out the greatest and latest.  Well, in my case...my system and card....I picked up 10 percent by going back to the mentioned.  Will try it with the DX12 update...and see if my FPS changes for the good or the bad....but somehow, I don't think it will...  Google it, and you will get a hit for download.   I'd be curious to see if you also picked up some FPS by running with it...

Your problem is....

YOU AIN'T NUTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG

(cryin all the time)

What I like is, I used to run a 1080ti, and it's possible this would have really helped me, or at least a quick easy something someone could try with a 1xxx card.  That's why I liked your post, as this could be helpful to some.

I think similarly to @bobcat999 in that most/all? of us may be upgrading our driver suite if the DX12 fix is something nvidia does vs. something Asobo may do.

You will absolutely need the latest Nvidia driver for the DX12 memory optimization when it's reinstated, as the bugs in it were an Nvidia issue, to be patched by them in a driver as much as any necessary changes in Asobo's implementation.

Latest GPU drivers can include code libraries with unique functions/commands that the code is calling, so if you don't update you wouldn't, for example, have access to DLSS if you have an RTX card.

Obviously it's not going to be so much of an issue if you have an older GPU that can't utilise things that are specific to later ones, such as DLSS, but you still might be missing out on other new code that comes with the latest driver to get the best out of DX12.

I went to three forums, in my search, Bert, and ln those three forums...three or four respondents raved about this suite.   For myself, I can see why.  I have great, clear visuals...gained those FPS(!!!!),  and no flashes, black outs,  hang ups...nothing.  This nVidia driver suite for my 1070 has found a good home...lol.  No need to keep 'what's new around the corner searching....'.   No mere swap out from one suite to another has given my such a FPS boost, just for the switching out. Done... the nVidia 446.14 suite it is!  Post Edit.  I have flown/started MSFS, P3D, and XP11...and I have the same benefit of FPS through them all.  It's not merely the coding in MSFS,  it is the coding within this particular suite that is giving me flight-sim wide, the 10 percent greater FPS output.

If they get DX12 working, with generally good reviews, then of course I would try to run it with the 446.14's...but if everybody is raving about great gains in  FPS, clarity, smoothness,  visuals...then I would have to 'HOUND DOG' again, I guess....but until then Mace...this was a good stumbled upon, find for my GTX1070! 🙂

Noted...and thanks.   Will keep all that in mind, as per DX12.

Perfectly possible that this driver version gives better performance on a 1070. On my 2028 super it achieves nothing good. Can't compare really because DLSS is deactivated with this old driver. So I have 28-32 fps in TAA with old drivers vs. 40-50 fps with DLSS and newest drivers.

Right..I did mention that those with newer cards..20's 30's...might need the newer drivers.  For my long-tooth 1070, this has been a real find as per recommendation from others.
