AIG Traffic HUGE Performance Drop!?

🙄 AIGTC's fault as a program running or that it's just injecting so much traffic? Turn your injected traffic % to ZERO and see if it still stutters.

Bingo!   Try running AI Companion and it's Traffic Limiter. You can customize it and get pretty awesome results based on where you are flying to/from.

Point well made to try at 0%. Also, I haven't yet tried AI Companion, but was just researching this morning! Thanks for the additional recommendation.

A starting point might be your most demanding airport to test. If you find your sweet spot there you will not have framerate issues at other airports.

You're right @GSalden! I guess it's going to have to be KLAX or Kennedy Intl.

I definitely agree that the high traffic percentage in major dense airport areas is causing the issue.

I flew out of LGA last night and had plenty of stutters on my machine every time the traffic needed to load or change a chunk of the traffic as I traveled along the northeastern seaboard. I had it set to 100%, and based on this thread, I'm definitely going to play around with the percentage.

The stutters were significant and the culprit was definitely AIG TC. Frankly, it's a program that requires significant optimization and it's still in alpha, as AIG has said that the clients weren't really designed to be end-customer facing as they are.

I've had many CTDs caused by TC, but I keep persisting with it because it makes the overall experience so much better. The in-game traffic settings result in a LOT less traffic as well as bizarre planes/liveries as static scenery.

Thanks for all of the info @mmcmah! I'll give it a read!

word not allowed @Dave_YVR, I hadn't thought of that... I'll for sure get back to you with some info on this suggestion!

Another word not allowed! I have been out of the Fligt Simulation game for a looong time now.. hardly even know where to start hahaha! Thank you, really appreciate it

Am I missing something?

No. That's how it has always been with AI traffic in those types of sims. MSFS can take more than the previous versions, but even it has its limits.

LOD set at 150, 70% AIG.

70% is fairly high though, although you’ve got a good system. I’ve come to kinda expect that AIG can be heavy on the mainthread, not sure if I’ve heard otherwise.

That's why I personally think that using PSXT and Real Traffic, a system that uses the AIG database, is a better solution for AI traffic.

I think PSXT and Real Traffic only use the AIG models and liveries, not the database (with flight plans). And your solution may be great but it will cost 10 bucks every month afaik... I would never ever pay 10 bucks a month just for traffic. And I doubt it will solve performance problems...?

Hi @tup61 & @Rob G, PSXT + RealTraffic DOES indeed perform noticeably smoother and better. That isn't even the best part about it. The best thing about it is it's stability. Crashing really isn't a thing as it is in AIG Traffic Controller.

HOWEVER you're stuck to STRICTLY sticking with IRL flight plans, because otherwise you have a very high chance of just crashing into an aircraft on the ground (can bi mitigated with lowered "density") or in air. Constant traffic warnings mid-flight can be VERY annoying and highly unrealistic if you decide to file a plan that isn't being filed IRL, e.g. if you decide to fly from point A to B that has no IRL airway.. The reason for this is that PSXT's AI aircraft are NOT recognized by the MSFS Air Traffic control AI under any circumstances..

EDIT: when I meant by constant warnings is looking out the window and seeing that there is no way that ATC would ever route you like that IRL - when not sticking to a IRL flight plan at a IRL time & date & weather

I'm really torn tbh.. don't mind paying 10EUR for a subscription because it is really good. On the other hand I DO indeed like the in-game ATC because it at least tries to prevent planes from crashing into each other. With PSXT it's basically like this: AI are on railway tracks and they don't really care all that much if you run into them - they will only despawn if you have that option disabled.

Due to this, further testing is required, but I think AIG might sadly be my AI Traffic program of choice due to it's ATC recognition.

If you're getting crashes with TC, trying running it in Windows 8 compatibility mode.

It won't stop all of them, but they should happen less often.

Interesting @Tuskin38, I have seen people mention this before. I shall give it a shot!

What kind of % settings are you using in AIG TC btw, if you don't mind me asking?

I had been using 100% in dense areas (LGA) and performance was terrible. Last night I flew into LAX and lowered to 50%. Performance was better but the stutters were still noticeable. I dropped it to 30% and performance was smooth.

Yeah, I agree with that.

I found that with my system (VERY high end) I could only push about 25-30 FPS at 50 - 65 % @LAX and 24 FPS is really my lower limit. Say what you will but even for a sim anything bellow 24 FPS is sadly unplayable.

For medium airports a setting up to around 85 % works well for me so far and for smaller ons any setting up to 99 % (apparently 100 % is NOT to be used with AIG Traffic Controller at all)

There's 3-4 major airports with in the AI spawning range of Laguardia, that's why.
