PC12 autopilot

Featured Replies

Has any one got the autopilot to engage and hold the selected vertical speed?  When I try this, the vertical speed drops all the way to zero (or below) before slowly working itself up to the vertical speed I selected on the KAS 297.   Needless to say, terrain can get in the way when this happens..

Can someone give me some tips on how best to manage this situation?

ARM doesn't work you must first press ENG then press the inner knob to select VS.

ARM seems to only work with IAS mode.  Another annoyance hehe.

I've had no probs with it, are you pushing the right button on the altitude to select V/S rate then hit the ENG button on the left of the gauge, the aircraft should climb and hold your selected rate of climb, don't forget the Arm button underneath it to level out at your selected altitude

I have the same 'droop' issue - best solution I have found so far is to set initial altitude and v/s on the gauge, this sets the flight directors.
Manual climb following the flight directors and trim until stable. Then engage IAS mode.  Once stable I find the Alt/Vs gauge works without issue for any further altitude changes.

I tried the PC-12 with Ap for the first time yesterday. Had some very unexpected results in the process (along with low FPS, for the first time). Probably best to leave this in the virtual hangar for now.

Disagree - it's worth the effort to master.  It's not as great as some aircraft but it's still fun to fly when you get familiar with the way to fly it.

It doesn't matter if you master it - the addon is broken badly and if you fly for more then 30 minutes the fps degrade significantly.  There are many bugs that I think people without aviation experience are missing.  (This alitude alerter per the thread title for instance).

I have over 20 hours in this aircraft and I havn't had a single instance of fps degredation that is not directly attributable to scenery (SU10 beta).  The fact that only some people are affected is going to make this hard to nail down.

As regards the 'Arm' function - I have only had one instance when the gauge failed to arm otherwise it has worked perfectly.

FPS and scenery: I've only had the low FPS in one geographical area (with far more scenery detail than areas I normally fly in). BUT other aircraft, including the HJet which has significantly more system depth, handled the same dense scenery without any hesitation at all. And said poor performance was out the start gate, the flight was relatively short at about 40 minutes and frame rate remained pretty bad throughout.

I've had 3 flights where the PC-12 has failed to capture the altitude I had selected (and yes, had Armed, and yes, did use VS to [supposedly] get there. And yes @ozzieblr I am perfectly comfortable with systems as basic as the PC-12's on other aircraft. Sure, it flies just fine (feels as large and heavy as it should), but with trim almost out of the AP's boundary and an overly long runway to get off the ground (and yet it can stop in half the distance it should!). This was a highly anticipated product from Carenado, it's a pity it has let even Carenado fans down.

Sorry friends, I think it's my fault. Every Carenado aircraft I buy on release seems to be lemons. 😂

Fingers crossed they'll fix it, or that SU10 makes provision for a mod to better it. 🤞

I never experienced any FPS degradation in the PC-12, I took it on a trip from Martha's Vineyard to Bermuda without any issues.
