The Definition of Madness

Yes, V6 is coming on the MSFS platform that will be sold immediately to LM once SU11 is completed. Asobo was hired MS on the request of LM to completed 2 year beta test called MSFS.   Those who purchased MSFS will be entitled for 50% discount on V6.

Now that is real madness

IMO, that does not bode well for any future development.

I don't see how that is bad for P3D's future? It's always been like that: No information, no talk about it.

When a speculative post is deleted by LM Admin, that gives me negative vibes

G, you are a triple double dog dare winner....:-)

It sure sounds like there is a V6.0 floating around out there somewhere. I just hope it does not go off the deep end with 100 GB downloads and 60 GB patches every other day. My internet service gives me a 12 Mb download speed when and if AT&T feeds the Pony Express Horse. I still look at the other "Sim" every 2 or 3 weeks and the "update broke my computer" posts send me right back to P3D.

Whatever v6 brings it’s unlikely LM will do the sort of sales blurb of Asobo / Microsoft. They are masters of the understatement.

Look at the huge improvements in ground textures and detailed coastlines in v5. It took me some time before I realised installing Ultimate Terrain X for Europe, North America and the Caribbean was pointless as the default scenery was more up to date.

They’ve had two years to contemplate their response to MSFS. Might they surprise us with something jaw-dropping given their financial resources?

At least it shows they still have the appetite to improve the product. I just hope our existing addons will not require extensive tweaking to be compatible. Developers will only return if they feel they can make money and that would require those who moved to MSFS to return in significant numbers.

I have wondered about that also. I did see a couple of DEV's that said something to the effect of; they were too busy with projects for LM and MSFS to develop P3D. If memory serves A2A was one of them. I sort of took that to mean that they were working on a defense project or space projects. If true it could mean that part of the deal for those big high dollar projects gives LM some power to get support for Civil aircraft also. I may be reading too much into it but LM is very rich and they are not stupid by a long shot. It just don't make a lot of sense for them to keep the product alive and moving forward knowing that no one is ever going to build new aircraft or update what is out there already. There has to be more to the story. If P3d was not going to move forward then they would shut down our little band of die hard P3D simmers in a New York second. They are not in the sim flying club business.

Why is MSFS being quoted here it has nothing to do with P3D, V6 will come when it comes not a problem, I can stay with what have or move to V6 my choice not a forced update. If MSFS is your thing go there, P3D is an inhouse project for LM not for the commercial market and will remain so even if we never use it.

Of course it has. MSFS won consumers over from P3D because it looked so much better. If LM respond with a version that closes that gap or even exceeds it people may well decide to adopt v6.

MSFS will always have more consumers XBOX will see to that, that`s why Phil Spencer bought it back for the Game Pass when you spend over 7billion on a game studio for the future of Cloud gaming instant play no downloading is the future. No need for a high end Gaming PC updated and powered buy streaming.

There are drawbacks using the XBOX version. Sophisticated aircraft such as the forthcoming FSL Concorde will not have full functionality with that version. It requires a PC version.

Now I readily accept only a small number of MSFS users would buy that version of Concorde and other quality aircraft. P3D is never going to compete with the XBOX fraternity but a decent upgrade might pesuade some PC users who have deserted P3D to buy it.

All speculation of course until we have some concrete info.

I don`t think MS are worried about PC users that`s Asobo`s problem, Asobo studios were the first to get the new XBOX that`s what MS wanted to grow Game Pass as of January 2022 passed 25million. Hosting a game in the cloud is what MS are working on using the power of high end GPU`s in the Azur cloud and the next gen game console is already being worked on, The latest smart TV`s are including Game Pass just like Netflix you sign up and get access to the catalogue.

This. Otherwise not very interested. If it does, I might try V6 out of curiosity which is about the limit of my brief dalliance with MSFS.  I defiantly can't see developers coming back to upgrade their P3D products to V6 for a price. Defiantly not for free.

Ignoring the speculation about V6 or no V6 given that a lot of the developers (most not all) have dumped their P3D and FSX (or P3D compatible) wares into the freebies bin hard to see them doing anything with P3D - they already made the decision to go MSFS only.

It is not the developers doing this or that I am interested in but LM coming up with some changes or fixes for a number of deficiencies which are well known. Windows behavour, sound problems, Sim Director and a good re tweak of EA and True Sky would do me just fine. My hangars full with great aeroplanes already. That said I still have a fine sim that runs just nicely, smooth, great graphics and no CTD - so even if there are no changes V5.3 will do me fine for a long time!

Edited by coastaldriver

A better integration of True Sky would be a big plus. As for aircraft i have what I want they may be obsolete but still my favourite 747.
