9.8GB vram VS 11GB

Any idea why the fps counter thing shows less than 11GB of vram that my 1080 Ti actually has?

I seem to remember the same issues in P3Dv5 once we actually had opportunities to max out our VRAM!  I can't remember the technical explanation/reason (might not have fully understood it in the first place lol) but I do seem to recall there was a bit of the VRAM that wouldn't be used.  I'm sure someone smarter than me can explain better!

Ok bummer hehe...  switching to DX12 definitly makes my 1080 ti suffer.  Need that 4080 lol!  Or maybe just a 3080 Ti (to maintain this visual quality - before the naysayers say you only a GTX 970 whilst running low settings at 1080P)

Yeah I remember having the same thought on my 2080ti, too bad it wouldn't use the full 11GB.

Looking forward to a 4080 here too.

The first number is memory currently "used" by MSFS . The second number is memory "allocated" to MSFS by Windows and is the total available for use by the game.

Neither number shows the total memory available to the system as a whole. The game only knows about the graphics memory allocated for it's use.

P3D would give you a OOM (Out of memory) and CTD when nearing vram limits in laymans terms. This maybe a way to stop it happening maybe. Common for the FSX early P3D days.

Windows operating system takes 1.6 -1.8 GB then your games get what's left over. Micro$oft use to take 2 from memory way back in 2016 then they optimised it somewhat.

Oh that makes sense.  Thanks everyone.  I'm seriously looking at Team Red now for a GPU upgrade.

FSW C414 - one of the best add-ons for the sim to date.  I got a pair of TDS GTN 750Xi's in mine.
