Yes, I know many (most/all) have given up on Outerra long ago, but I do keep my ear to the ground on these things, and always believed this tech had a future.

Microprose is releasing more and more hints about their Outerra based flightsim, The Mighty Eighth, even as the Outerra developers themselves have been silent for quite some time, I suspect due to licensing and keeping things under wraps.

Perhaps not for that much longer.....

Lots of quiet progress has apparently been made on the world of Outerra.

Also: (you may see glimpses of the Outerra world, here....)

Fun fact: MicroProse was founded by Sid Meier (of Civilization fame, one of MicroProse's first titles) and Bill Stealey - who was an A-37 pilot in the Air Force and was the driving force behind most of their military sims. Although the company shut down in 2003, the rights to the name were acquired in 2019 by a former Bohemia Interactive developer (Operation Flashpoint, the ARMA series, etc..) and Bill Stealey is involved in the project.

So I'd say this reincarnation of MicroProse has some serious credibility to it.

I do miss the more scripted and story-like missions of Combat Sims in the good old days and it sounds like some of the upcoming titles will be a return to that form. I also like the idea of an easy to use world-building tool to support the creation of additional content  by the community and other devs. Easy to see how someone from the ARMA universe would see the importance of that.

Fingers crossed that the reborn MicroProse becomes another quality publisher in this space along with Eagle Dynamics, 1C Company, etc...

Another was DID (Digital Image Design) with EF2000 and loved the dynamic campaigns.

Loved that, and the F22 one they did. Great campaigns.

Interesting, I almost forgot this existed because it's been going for years and years with just small baby changes. I remember it having a really dedicated team of modders and developers behind it, it's just a pity it's fell behind the times as it had huge potential to be a decent flight simulator

Which will pretty much create an instant base of users, many of whom have probably long since deleted it as the years went by, but will not be adverse to the word free. As for me, I still have it installed. 🤪
