FSR vs DLSS

turbomax said there is NO image degradation.

because he doesn't need nor use FSR/image enhancements therefore he observes no image degradation, he uses only Frame Generation which gives me 80-90 fps. more than my TV can handle 😀

and for those who do complain about image degradation (in other games, not flight simulation) I assume NVidia will have that improved very soon as well. that's what the "L" in DLSS stands for.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

With the exception of compatibility and who created them, do you realize that DLSS and FSR are the same thing?

I file bug reports.

about low frame rates? I am not part of the x-plane beta group and have no interest in becoming a test pilot for yet another simulator. I assume they don't need me reporting low frame rates anyway. they knew about it before they even released it.

Absolutely.  I've filed heaps during alpha AND beta.  My first bug report was about 1 month into testing. And it was about getting single digit fps with heavy cloud cover.  Now I get fps in the 50's with the same cloud cover.

a fun experience for all the family

the family would have more fun if the pilot had at least an artificial horizon and perhaps also a GPS-map.

"Statistics from the Federal Aviation Administration indicate that ....... of those weather-related accidents, 50% resulted from VFR into IMC, and 72% of the VFR into IMC accidents were fatal."

I survived obviously, but I did have an artificial horizon and several GPSs. the other time it was pure luck. at my altitude I could hardly climb above the storm clouds anymore, fortunately it was not in a glider airplane.😀

not at all, thats called scud running and is a great way to send your family to the spirit in the sky.

XP12 is doing that fine, at 90fps+ near max quality in VR with no need to reduce the quality.

There are two sides to the upscaling equation.

1. getting almost but not quite acceptable performance on old hardware - why the aaa games impliment it

2. getting slighter better visuals than native 2K resolution on a 4K or 8K display - what all the marketting focuses on.

Its not that 2) isnt nice to have, its just that no one needs it, and XP11 is still for sale for people with outdated hardware.

the glider pilot obviously became subject to spatial disorientation, and that is "less fun" without an artificial horizon.  as in so many other cases, he had lots of opportunities to still dive down through holes in the clouds while he was still visual.

flying into clouds

you seem to think they had a choice.

The only easy thing about that choice is how very easy it is to make the wrong choice.

Their mistake was taking off, everything after that was life experience.

Its a glider, what are they supposed to do when they get down there and there is nowhere to land and visibility drops to zero?

Pull over to the side of the road and ask for directions maybe?

My sincere gratitude to all those who helped improve the performance. Honestly I can attest to this. In the very first iteration of V12, I couldn't even look at the clouds. It's a tremendous improvement in that area now. No noticeable loss in fps in heavy cloud cover. Just waiting for that 'big' weather fix now begining with proper accumulated snow coverage.

there were many large holes and open fields, not built up cities, below them. every pilot trains landings outside of airports, glider pilots are used to that even more so.

"Pull over to the side of the road and ask for directions maybe?"

yes, lets. shall we. or how about a graveyard spin. soft field landings in the wild open are totally overrated.

you can say, looking back, before they got into trouble running vfr onto imc.

it feels a bit like this is drifting OT - but I'll point out this is all really what is being talked about when it comes to upscaling - actually getting this stuff simulated so we can have these experiences and practice making the right choices.

Yes they have artifacts, no they arent perfected yet.

But today we can, this time last year we could not.

DLSS12, FSR1001, TAAXPMD have no impact on that, and even mean virtually nothing over FSR in terms of getting close to native 4K60fps/8K30fps

The only new/different word soup letter technology I have seen that will make a significant impact on that is openXR.

Be advised: AFAIK the settings.txt file gets overwritten with each X-Plane update.

That's ok.  No one has asked you to.  But I can understand your frustration.  After more than 2 years, the competition has a list of bugs that would make any developer cringe with fear.

Indeed they did.  And they managed to get the framerates well and truly out of single digits.

And I noticed @abrams_tank threw a like on your post.  Nice to see you wandering over here to see the happenings!  After our last interaction, and your well known feelings about X-Plane, I honestly wasn't expecting you to drop in.  At all.
