Sorry to hijack, but has there been any word as to when the BMW "on hold" airports will be release to their subscribers? I am a bit perplexed that I subscribed, albeit for a very small cost, only to now be unable to have access to any of the newer airports.

Cheers, Pete

Nothing yet, last time he posted on the forum was a couple month ago, even if he comes online quite often, to update the website and sceneries.

With his latest partnership with Amsim, I don't see him push a few button to make the "on hold" scenery online, in his mind all airport available to membership is an airport that won't be sold.

That’s unfortunate. Hopefully he surprises us all.

He’s said that will happen when sanctions on Russia are lifted (so he can get money from new subscribers to keep funding what he’s admitted is a Ponzi scheme). Could be waiting a while!

“Interesting” then that his partnership with Amsim/Orbx seems to allow him/them to evade the sanctions, huh? (I am not going to lose sleep over that, but seems…problematic for his partners.)

Guys everything costs more nowadays.  It takes a lot of work to make these things.  .

I don't think costs rose that much since 2020, the release of MSFS. But maybe there are a lot fewer casual players using MSFS than 2020 when it was released. With a smaller market than 2020, it may explain why some of the prices of scenery have gone up a little.

I see spreadsheets far too often in my workday, so use Google Earth instead. Only need to see where I have scenery. Therefore, drop Placemark pins, name them after each airport and in the Description tab, put the name of the developer and store / flightsim.to location.

I use an Excel spreadsheet and Google Maps to track the airports I have and whether I've flown to them or not.

My rule is: I won't buy/download an airport until I've hit all the ones I already have.

I'm not happy with default airports. Yes they look better than they used to, but especially the ground layout is a joke, most of the time. And that stuff is too important.

I also was a serial airport buyer back in the day.

That has changed and I've become more dilligent. I don't buy airports across the globe anymore, only the ones that are in the portfolio of airlines that I regularly simulate flights of.

This is where I am at as well. I do reference in my notes if the airport is at least one of the handcrafted ones they put in the sim with an update.

It is a bit of a chicken and the egg: do I not fly into the airportt because it's a default airport, or do I not fly into it because there are other airports capturing my attention.

In the end, I will end up getting some very well-done airport like EBBR, and KEWR and using them as hubs for my regular flights.

On average, I spend 30-40 euros each months on add-ons which is probably too much.

Anyway, I nerver bought something which wasn't on sale (except Fenix and PMDG) so I probably saved a few hundred euros. was even able to buy EBBr, GSx Pro, JF Bae-146 on sale.

Never rush when it is on release and have a look each week to check for potential sales. Easter, Black Friday, Xmas is a nice period to buy add-ons.

I would like to buy the Newark scenery but no hurries, like all DD sceneries, it will be on sale anytime soon.

I don't think the player base has shrunk that much, I believe that many people are happy with the default airport scenery and are unwilling to shell out almost $20 or more for one airport, that they might fly to maybe once or twice a year.

Another thing to do is to buy smaller airports on sale. It doesn't always have to be those huge mega airports that cost double digits, where you have to taxi around for 2 hours to get to the runway, and that kill your frame rates faster than Jack the Ripper.
