January 28, 20233 yr I saw someone on YouTube recommend putting 16x Anisotropic Filtering in the Nvidia panel but turning it off in the sim. Is that correct? If so, what would the benefits be? Most settings i see say to run 16 x in the sim. Thanks! January 28, 20233 yr Try and test it yourself - no harm can be done as this is very safe option to play with. I think u will not see any difference. Edited January 28, 20233 yr by Beardyman Artur

January 28, 20233 yr Some people say that the Anisotropic filter from Nvida produces sharper pictures then the ingame version ... I tried it a few times, but to be honest I couldn't make out any difference, especially on a 4K screen. Might be different on lower resolutions. January 28, 20233 yr It's just like people who tell you to set Low Latency mode to Ultra or whatever in the CP. Literally makes zero difference. 16X aniso is 16x whether you set it in Nvidia or MSFS.

I know that appeared in a recent SU and when it did I assumed it was a similar or same effect. January 28, 20233 yr Yes, I saw that, it was Q8's video, with a few new 'optimisation' suggestions. You have to be careful with these things as some will likely help and others likely hinder. Eg. He said to delete the Nvidia cache, and this made a really positive difference for me in smoothness. But he also said to set the Shader Cache to unlimited in Nvidia Control Panel, and for me, this introduced really awful stutters. AF set in the Control Panel versus in game will almost certainly make no difference. There's a high chance that MSFS makes a call to the GPU driver to set AF (AF is a pretty basic process compared to AA and devs don't tend to "reinvent the wheel" with it), so both methods are probably doing exactly the same thing! January 29, 20233 yr This kind of tinkering is usually a waste of time because the benefits are negligible. I much prefer to fly rather than follow tips, especially since I am getting performance in MSFS that was unimaginable not so long ago. If it's already 98% perfect, why bother trying for 99%? How would I even notice the difference?
