Cataract Surgery

I just returned from an appointment with an Eye Surgeon and he has scheduled me for cataract surgery on my left eye this forthcoming Friday the 17th. My right eye will be operated on some few weeks later.

The only fly in the eye is that I must check in to the Baptist Hospital in Arkadelphia at 6am! I also have to find someone to drive me to and from the hospital or they will cancel my surgery. Unfortunately, the only surgeon who will accept VA Community Care as the payment source is in Arkadelphia, just under 50 miles from my house.

Try getting a rheumatologist taking Medicare. You will have to find a huge hospital chain to get one. Most of these drs. went to state funded medical schools. How soon they forget. I had cataract surgery. I have 20/20 vision now. Again done by a surgeon at a large hospital chain.

Thank god for them. Good luck, Bill. you will love the results.

Piece of cake Fr. Bill. You'll love the results. I would have done it way sooner if I'd known how good I'd see afterwards.

I had a choice between travelling to Little Rock, AR or to Dr. Teed's office in Arkadelphia, AR since I live over 50 miles from the VA hospital in LR.

I chose going to the doctor in private practice since he's been in business for many years and his specialty is eye surgery. At the VA hospital, I'd would have been operated on by a relative "newbie" under the supervision of an established surgeon. My eyesight is one of the most precious things and I just didn't feel like risking my vision to a doctor still in residency.

The only advantage of choosing the VA would have been that they run a shuttle bus to and from Hot Springs and LR.  I'm going to ask my landlord if he would be willing to be my chauffer for the day.

I take it your med coverage has no transportation option. Considering it would be $240 round trip, see if your landlord would take $100 round trip (or less) everybody wins.

Sadly, the VA (which provides almost 100% of my health coverage, the exception being dental, does not offer transportation other than their shuttle bus services to and from the two VA hospitals in central Arkansas.

I will need to make at least six trips to the eye surgeon: first visit for through exam, left eye on the 17th, right eye some weeks later, then at least two follow up visits. I can (barely) afford gas, but could not possibly pay for more... 😟

Some good news finally. My landlady and her mate have volunteered to be my chauffeurs for the two trips for surgery. I can handle the two (or more) follow-up visits solo.

I had both eyes done a couple of years ago. The results are worth any amount of hassle you encounter.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.
