You worked at a large tech company between now and the pandemic and saw people taking naps and hanging out in the cafeteria?

I don't work at a large tech company. But I've seen lots of YouTube videos, many posted by the employees themselves, boasting about how many perks they have on the job and how little they actually have to work. https://youtu.be/pjNoZwjivSs

Anything don't require online connection and mandatory update is better than MSFS IMO, case closed.

Reframing the question - is Flight simulation important to Microsoft?  The answer can be nothing but YES.

The answer has to do with replicating the planet.

Legitimate question.  Why would they need to replicate the planet, again?

They've already done it with Bing maps, which could be considered a pet project for a Microsoft engineer, who was bored, but competitive enough to go up against Google.  All they need is a satellite with a camera.

The Nvidia DLSS 3 within MSFS is spectacular, literally doubling frame rates on the 4000 series. But DLSS 3 only works if a program incorporates the technology within its code. MSFS is the only sim to do so.

This is correct.  But it leaves everyone without a 4000 series GPU, with nothing but hopes and dreams.  Also DLSS 3 is only compatible with GTX cards.

They would have done much better by using FSR.  It's newer tech, and cross compatible with all GPU's.  Even on board Intel GPU's.

Where did that come from??  What does that have to do with the topic??

Nothing prevents MSFS from maintaining its prominence as the preferred flight sim going forward.

The aircraft and avionics update was so outstanding that I'd like to see a profile of some of the WT coders. We know Jorg and Seb and Martial from Asobo. But I'd like to see names and faces of the guys from WT too. In my view, they deserve tremendous credit and recognition for their spectacular achievements.

Umm, you may want to read the thread title again. It's about anything else from MSFS.

The question could be can any other flight simulator compete with MSFS?

When considering the breadth and depth of what's offered with and on the MSFS platform, and the quality/abilities/attitude/transparency/level-of-engagement/etc of the MS/Asobo dev+product teams, and the quality and quantity of 3rd party devs and the level of their engagement, and a myriad other factors, no other sim even comes remotely close for me, as of now.

And the MSFS platform found its stride in mid-2022 and is definitely on a roll as 2023 begins, and all signs point to that continuing for the foreseeable future. I say all this having tried all the sims over the years since the 80s. MSFS is just in a different league, again as of now.  Can that change? Of course. Can others come along in the future to surpass it? Again of course... And like I've done multiple times in the past, if a better sim platform comes along in the future I will readily switch, *if* it's compelling enough.

umm, so you decide to take a pot shot at a competing flight sim?

That's getting really old, don't you think?

Looking at MSFS today there is nothing that can come close to it for fidelity and immersion.  My only question is is there somethng that can?

I can think of people in the P3D, X-Plane, Aerofly, Flight Gear, DCS forums who would readily disagree with you.  It's all a matter of opinion.
