Virus Protection Which Plays Nice with MSFS

Just checked my receipts - I started using ESET (NOD32) back in 2005, never had any problems.

Is that wishful thinking or some kind of fact?

Simple logic.

Lots of interesting opinions expressed in this thread, but I wonder. Has anyone decided based on this conversation to change from whatever AV they are currently using to something else based on what has been written above?

Best wishes as always.

Not to totally answer your query but to offer some additional insight:

The security environment is an ecosystem not owned by one company.  IOW information is shared.

Microsoft works security at very high levels including with goverments and international entities.

Microsoft is in the best situation and has the most incentive to remedy security flaws in its millions / billions of Windows installs for financial reasons.

Since security has become a #1 priority for Microsoft since the late 90's its seems unlikely that today, anyone could feel more secure runnig Windows / XBOX apps with a 3rd party security solution.

I used NOD32 for many years and was very happy with it.  Two years ago however, I retired and looked at my expenses to see where I could cut back a bit. Decided to let my NOD32 licence slip and give Windows Defender a try. So far, I have been equally happy with it.

Windows Defender. Or don't get a virus in the first place.

No but I followed @badgenes' advice not to exclude any folder with Defender

Windows Defender + Malwarebytes

Never had a single problem.

Never "excluded" a folder, or done any of that nonsense that you're supposed to do.

The best thing you can do for yourself or your system is to "bullet proof" your browser with various pop up and ad ware etc. blockers. At a minimum, use ublockorigin and Ghostery.

Windows defender is better than nothing, but not much. 😉
