That's a bummer about AI. FS9 and FSX/P3D all have good AI abilities.  At least in the sense that you didn't have big jets in places they didn't belong.  I feel like Asobo is just ignoring any ATC, AI, and certain weather issues (radar).  The Visionjet and HJet do look like nice products.  I also like the looks of the offerings at that Gotfriends place.  Do those freeware planes have cockpits though?  I do miss a couple of the older FS9 bush planes that were too slow but could sight-see so well and allow you to go anywhere.

I wouldn't say they're ignoring them, but there's a lot of stuff that is, and should, be taking priority. Such as the tears in the world that are causing plane crashes. I'd rather 'em fix that long before they worry about what's parked at the local grass strip.

Very few planes lack cockpits anymore. Certainly nothing from Gotfriends or FlightFX - all of their stuff is top-tier.

In terms of AI, I have usually set it pretty low just because the FPS and other anomalies create problems, even in FSX (just as in FS9 and prior).  Does a lower setting provide at least some traffic so the environment isn't stale?  And does road traffic have a huge impact on performance?  Again, a lower setting.

I can tell that you cannot wait to start it up.. 😉

I think you will be pleasantly surprised with performance.

One freeware item I would invest some time with up front, would be the Addons Linker.  You are going to need it as your collection of addons grows, as it surely will...

I'll echo that, and I'd suggest that early on you create a tree of geographic directories (e.g. ...North_America\USA_West) so you don't end up with a zillion sceneries in one folder.

It's called youtube.

I use YouTube.  But a lot of times people have different systems and setups that won't equate what your system can do.  I was looking for any feedback that would be more specific to my situation.  I ask questions on YT videos and hardly get any good response, or none at all.

If I were you, I would start with your existing monitor, DX11, and default TAA.

Why DX11? Just like me, he has a 4090. I have been using DX12 + TAA + Frame Generation and the result is marvelous. Yesterday I departed EGKK with locked 120fps on the Fenix and have not experienced crashes in over a year.

With that system and the money you're spending you need to think monitor and also a VR headset. I have a 43 inch 4k gsync monitor for 2d, and a reverb G2 for VR (it's good but I'd get higher res if you can afford it). I love the monitor and the 2d flying is great, but the VR experience is quite something and you don't want to miss out. It's about half and half for me. But when I'm in the mood for the best possible experience, it's VR hands down.

New players should head straight to flightsim.to, that's where all the best free mods are in one place. Includes a great UI and quality of life features that makes filling your flight sim world easy and intuitive! Have fun!

Edit: Oh, sorry that was a couple of weeks ago.

I'd get a new monitor before a VR set I think.  Just for the fact that many things I do are not sim-related.  But settling on the right fit seems challenging.  There seems to be a pro and con to all available monitors out there.

Install MSFS on a separate SSD drive if possible

Why why why Bert?  I run everything on one nice big fast m.2 NVMe drive why do people still insist on this?  I have NO problems w/ installs, back ups, clones, load times.
