Newbie’s guide to 4090 settings needed

Featured Replies

Sorry for this lazy request but can anyone point me to an word not allowed’s guide for the settings needed to make use of the frame smoothing on a 4090?

(Nvidia’s website has the Founder’s Edition back in stock in the UK for £1600 and I couldn’t resist , even though this almost certainly means they’re clearing stock for a Ti version in the near future).

{edited by me to spell out the intended word with extra spacing : without it, some kind of dystopian censor changes it to “word not allowed”}

//admin edit: with it now, too!

Directx 12 selected?

HAGS activated? hardware accelerated GPU scheduling.

"Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling must be activated in Windows to use DLSS Frame Generation. In Windows 11, this option is turned on by default. To enable this feature in Windows 10, press the Windows key on your keyboard, type Graphics settings and press enter. This opens the Graphics settings menu. Here you can enable Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling. A restart is required to activate the feature."

very nice.

Just a quick question, does anyone now if there is there any benefit for running this card on Win11 as opposed to Win10?

yes but ...

I choose quality over speed and I use mostly analog instruments. the blurring is less obvious there than in glass cockpits with their fine print. and since we don't get to choose FrameGeneration under VR, not many other speed enhancement options left ...

How bizarre that the word “I D I O T” is deemed worthy of censorship!! What on earth is going on?

Well, there should be no need to use the word in general forum conversation.  It would be misused by some, and you are not an 'eejut' either, you are just here after some help getting started, that's all, like a lot of us here.
'A novices guide to 4090 settings' maybe would have been better wording without putting yourself down so much.   Looks like you are getting some good help now anyway.

You better set them to ultra and go!

Doesn't the HAGS setting produce more heat in the GPU?

Lee

I have not seen this as a significant issue, but HAGS is needed for frame generation.  It would be a pity to have a 4080 / 4090 without utilising frame generation.

not really. overclocking is not noticeable/pointless. ASUS have 1 more HDMI connector. I chose Gigabyte for it's 3-4 years warranty.

Guys.  These standards have long been in place and are agreed upon by members.  The topic itself is however relevant and interesting.  Let's stay on course
