France bans short-haul flights

Featured Replies

Another token gesture by the so-called "elites" and their fake battle against you-know-what.

The recommendation to ban flights which could be substituted with train journeys of 4 hours or less would have been more meaningful, but of course that might inconvenience 1)private jet users and 2)others who would be forced onto a crowded train and have to endure an extra hour of travel time, and, well, we can't have that.

If these people in the highest positions of power and wealth really believed their own nonsense, they would certainly do more than this in order to, in their words, prevent the end of the world.

If I were crowned a new Sun King, I'd convert the Tuileries next to the Place de la Concorde into a new City Airport, kidding, kidding.

I feel like I'm against this measure. I enjoy taking short commuter flights. It seems this won't make much difference. But that's just brouhaha. Maybe it's a good idea. TGV's are good too.

It was inevitable given the EU's insane "net zero" agenda. UK has already announced plans to ban ALL aviation around 2040. Netherlands are planning to ban ALL aviation except intercontinental flights (no date given, but suggested it'll be very soon).

Of course both will exclude government aircraft and corporate jets from "essential people" from those bans, only the plebs shall be limited in their freedom to travel.

I always say that if the people who institute a lot of the bone head policies had to live by them or suffer the same consequences from them as we do, they’d never implement them.

Naturally, no one is as important as actors, professional athletes, and wealthy business men and politicians. 😂😂 I remember hearing stories about famous American actors vacationing in exotic places during the lockdowns that no one else was able to go to, because of course, they are very important people.

That's the European way of doing business...

You have an A320 that makes great profits every time you sell one, but you also offer an A220 that barely breaks even when you sell one and every time you sell one you take away a sale of the more profitable option the A320

You ban short haul flights to monopolize trains instead because you also make trains, but you sell trains at a loss, therefore your unprofitable trains take profits away from the A220, A320 and the ATR72

Yay Trains CHOO CHOO

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Reducing the volume of commuter flights in France if it was ever desirable, should be done relatively easily by improving the economic competitiveness and the quality of service of the French railways. Today,  it is most of the time cheaper to fly than to take a  train for a 300-mile journey !

To do that  the government has to free the French Railways of the trade unions hold which has severely degraded both competitiveness and QoS over the years.  It  requires guts.  Easier to ban the Paris-Lyon flights. Thats all there is to it.

Its an eight hour drive for the longest drive distance in France in an electric car...Of course it doesn't include the 37 stops along the way to charge it, assuming there are any stations along your route...

This why some manufacturers are looking to Asia to manufacture as banning the manufacture of some goods will damage them in the future.
