While a step in the right direction, there are still many limitations. I think keeping the base sim/game light and adding tons of extra options via DLC is pretty much the industry standard now because it works. What I do like most about XP12 is I dont have to add a load of hacks and mods just to get it up and running - that was a severe problem with XP11, fix the clouds, fix the engine spray, fix the settings, fix all the default aircraft, download 100 libraries just to get one airport to have the gates in the right place... omg that list went on. My XP12 install is great vanilla + scenery + whatever DLC I'm working on/playing with at the time (mostly the 744 and AutoATC these days, helping out others as I have time). AutoATC Developer

Certainly they're more mature than the other ones. "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

Hot air balloons were in FS2002 so that's embarassing for you. There's having balloons and then there's simulating them the way 2024 does. And yes it is careers and not just missions. lol I knew a post in favor of X-Plane in the X-Plane forum would have triggered the usual suspects lol 🤣🤣 lol But let's even forget balloons, I could name 20+ other configurations (e.g. helicopters, autogyros, proper thrust vectoring, proper canard configuration, etc. etc.) implemented properly in X-Plane decades before the competition, and not just using some embarassing fudges lol True, the competition has had helicopters, thrust vectoring, balloons, etc. for a long time, but let's say the respective implementation was not quite... On the same level of realism than in X-Plane, to use a gentle term. Edited June 26, 20232 yr by Murmur "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

Far more satisfying than better road edges and such... Here is something already demonstrated in XP11 to Murmurs point. It was a start in that direction of mission based addon's by 3P and I am sure it will improve in XP12.

June 26, 20232 yr Did the xplane team do any interviews or release any news over the expo? I have not seen anything from them. Flight Sim PC - OS: Windows 11 Pro. CPU: i9-13900K. RAM: 64GB. GPU: NVidia RTX 4090 OCFlight Sim Xbox - Seriex X, 3TB

From what I heard, they said they will have something out in the next few days from Sunday. So I would expect to look something out between today and tomorrow is my only guesstimate.

That is really amusing to me hearing from someone who is supposedly all about the most realistic physics. I'm willing to bet if Austin saw that balloon demo, he said, "woah!". Using the DCSW paradigm, That's EXACTLY why I'd like the missions/campaigns feature built into the game. The quality of the code is generally higher, the UI/UX matches the base sim AND is better than 3PD, code conflicts are MUCH lower, etc. as you say, it's just much easier to get going.

"Cute animations" was referring to the 2002 balloons. But I probably shouldn't have chimed in on that one because I have since remembered that I jumped from '98 to '04ACOF back then. Have you not noticed my exclamation marks in previous references to your new balloons?!? Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Finally. a. this is a thread about X-Plane in the X-Plane forums. It's not about what's coming in the next version of MSFS. b. In re "stats", if you'd prefer to cut your nose to spite your face (i.e., remain word not allowed of the wider genre), then you deserve to be so. c. Adding features costs a lot of money. They wouldn't do it if a bunch of paying customers weren't asking for it. Austin said he wouldn't need to employ 25-ish people if graphics weren't such a big deal to his customers...

And really excited for a new way to observe Scenery Simulator. You mean cute animations like blowing trees, chirping birds, evaporating puddles, regional autogen, wing flex, tire smoke, etc.? Austin just got finished saying most of his workforce is engaged solely in improving the eye candy of the sim. It's what paying customers want.
