PMDG statement on V6

Recommended Posts

Quote

PMDG Products in Lockheed Martin Prepar3D v6:
With all of our development resources focused on bringing our airliner simulations into Microsoft Flight Simulator, we are not currently planning to update any of our P3D products for compatibility with P3Dv6. We have done the obligatory "drag-and-drop" to see if the products will work as is and have had poor results. This tells us that some code effort/recompiling will be needed and the resources simply are not available to do so. Earliest re-evaluation of this decision will take place after the 747-400 release in MSFS, which is the same time we will evaluate whether we will conduct further updates of our P3D products based upon the market conditions that exist at that time.

Well, they are out of P3Dv6 for now (it will be a long wait anyway; atleast we don't have to keep any hopes up for it anyway. I appreciate their straightforward honesty).

But it would be nice if they can just release a P3Dv5 installer for DC-6, the darn thing is still stuck on p3dv4 (come on PMDG)

Well this is an opportunity for some new player to make something so good (way better than pmdg) that works in p3dv6 and they can corner the market.

I strongly doubt that will happen. Yes it would corner the market. But it would likely cost way more than the expected demand.

Let's be honest, there's barely a market to corner any more.

This made me laugh out loud as the kids say.

Curious where this mythical developer has been hiding out, just waiting for the right moment to pounce on the ~300 or so stalwarts that still hold the ESP engine deep in their hearts...

The last nail in the coffin for P3D commercial passenger aircraft will be when FSLabs finally comes out with their official statement. From what I’m seeing so far it’s anybody’s guess when it comes to v6 for the Airbus or even Concorde as they haven’t officially said yet. And good luck to all those QualityWing 787 owners.

So much negativity vis-a-vis P3D simply because PMDG refuses to update their planes.

I couldn't care less what PMDG or any other payware aircraft developer decides to do with their products.  Most of them are simply in this for the money, and PMDG, for one, has certainly demonstrated this in the past.

I have a full fleet of airliners - 717, 737 classics, NG, and Max, 747, 757, 767, 777, 787, A319-321 + Neo, A330, A350, CRJ 200-1000, EMB E-Jet 170-195, DHC8 200-400 - all freeware.  The only money I've spent is on realistic payware sounds.  I get 99% of the enjoyment flying them as I did flying the expensive PMDG, Aerosoft, and Captainsim planes in the past.

The only payware planes I've bought are Carenado, as there isn't much on offer as far as good freeware general aviation aircraft.  If Carenado refuses to update their planes, then I'll look for alternatives.

I'm tired of the payware flightsim products drama, waiting and hoping that developers will generously deign to fix and/or update products that they've been paid for.  I doubt that updating to v5 or v6 requires a major overhaul of the product.  I understood the necessity of major work to go from 32-bit to 64-bit, but I don't believe that kind of work would be required here.  Perhaps I'm wrong, and if it turns out I am, then I'll admit I was wrong.

In either sim, oh boy. They've been quiet for two years and the only info we got a few weeks ago was a reply to a customer inquiry where the response was "They are in a holding pattern". If whatever their situation is keeps them from releasing for the cash injection platform that is Microsoft's sim, then V6 if it requires so much rework, an update is not happening right now either. I'm tempted to say as far as QW is concerned, stay on V5.3 for the P3D guys and the AAU2 update and Kuro mods for the other sim.

By then, there will be several mature airliners in MSFS. There go the chances of having the current PMDG birds in v6 😞

At least there's nothing preventing me from using v5.4.
