The further this tread goes the more complicated things become wrt FG.  I have a 9900KF cpu and a gen 9 motherboard plus a 60Hz 49 inch 4K Sony TV and a 2 year old 3080ti gpu.  I am looking to upgrade my hardware but would like to spread the cost over a couple of years.  As a first step I am considering replacing the gpu with a 4080ti when it is released later this year but only if FG would  give me some benefit for a time while still using the rest of my current kit before upgrading the rest (except for the TV that will have to stay) probably in two years time after the next generation CPU is released.   However this thread  makes me wonder if there would be any point in doing this - FG seems to come with quite a lot of gotchas.

From my experience and understanding Bruce, you just won't be able to get V-SYNC working whilst FG is running. It used to work prior to AAU1 but something broke after that and V-SYNC (either via NCP or within the game itself) works with FG currently. At least that's my experience and what seems to be discussed at length here

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/dlss-3-frame-generator-vsync/556015

and here

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/regression-dlss3-frame-generation-with-vsync-broken-in-1-30-9-with-fixed-refresh-rate-monitor/568809

On my rig (which is made more compilated due to being a multi monitor setup) if I don't run VSYNC I get significant tearing and inconsistent frames and that induces stutters.

Thanks for that insight as I do use Vsync currently and have no issues. Clearly moving forward in this space is not a straight forward matter.

Hi Bruce,

If you test with the internal counter + external counter you will see that Vsync does not work correctly.

Capping the fps inside the NVCP does limit the FPS but it is not smooth. You might get 60 fps but they are not equally spread within 1 second.

Myself I have my 4K tv’s running at 60 hertz but with Unlimited I see 94-120 fps but as the TV’s are only putting out 60 fps the rest is lost. Capping them  leads to a higher latency and frames that aren’t equally spread.

A Gsync monitor might help, but as I do not have them I cannot comment on that.

How can I turn on FG with TAA?  And will that cause the blurry displays like DLSS FG?

FG is a different option from AA. DLSS is an AA form.

So no, it will not cause blurry displays.

Hopefully Asobo will fix the broken Vsync + FG, but I have a feeling that we’ll have to wait for Fs2024….

Only then users with regular monitors or 60 hertz TV’s will became to use 29/30 fps vsync + FG which will give 58/60 fps ….

Hi Bob,

Do you have VSYNC working with FG? This is something I didn't think was working since AAU1. It certainly doesn't work for me on my 60HZ TV but perhaps with your monitor type it is.

This is the one thing thats killing me about FG.....tearing tearing everywhere.

I don't have any tearing, but I'd attribute that to having hardware G-Sync rather than anything to do with V-Sync.  I have frame rates capped well below the max refresh rate of my monitor, so V-Sync wouldn't be be a factor even if it were working.

My gut feel is that, without G-Sync, the best alternative is FG off, and V-Sync with a 30Hz hardware refresh rate.  That's the config I use in P3D with a 55" TV, and it is very smooth, except when there's rapid, large movement across the screen, like watching an AI acft landing while holding at right angles to a runway, or rapidly panning the view.

I agree, and that's exactly what I'm running now.

Which is what I do as well with my 49" 60 hertz Sony TV that I am not planning on replacing.  So maybe not the time for other hardware upgrades until Asobo fixes the broken Vsync.

How does FG work with a G-sync compatible display in regards to which frame does the monitor sync to? For example mine is a 4K 60hz display which syncs down to around 30hz as a lower range. So let’s say for arguments sake I am getting 25 “natural” frames, and FG is outputting this at 50 fps, would the display see this as 50fps therefore g-sync is enabled? Or would it see it as 25fps and be outside of the g-sync range?

No the Vsync will not repair, however for FS2024 it will be as much as a big work on the performance has been done.

The frame rate of the signal leaving the video card to the monitor is the FG-augmented rate (50 fps in your example).

Hi, i have bought a 4080 series card recently, now I am a little confused about frame generation and VR. I would like to use FG in VR together with TAA. I can select FG in MSFS 'PC' graphics tab, but it is not available in VR graphics settings. Is FG not available for VR?

Greetings

Thought so, just wanted to do a sanity check before I possibly look at a 4080 😀 thanks Bob
