temporary freeze when approaching some 3rd party airports

Featured Replies

I have an issue that whenever I am approaching some 3rd party airports once I get within range of the airport loading, the sim will freeze for 15-20 seconds. The sound continues and then everything will resume normally again. I went from an i7 6700k 2080 super to a ryzen 7900x and 4070ti and this issue still persists. Sim runs perfectly smooth except for this issue. Happens with AI on or off as well. All my MSFS settings are pretty modest for my system like LOD at 100 and most settings on high except clouds on ultra. I am completely stumped. I remember that this started happening after the world update for Australia which I never installed. Also a complete reinstall did not solve it.  Was wondering if anyone knows what might be causing this?

thanks,

Dave

Cache issue? Otherwise are you running the sim on an HDD or an SSD?

I dont use the rolling cache if that is what you mean. And I am on a 2tb ssd.

Thanks

Are you on a fresh installation of Windows 10/11 or did you just swap components?

Does it happen without the 3rd party airports and an empty community folder?

yes it is a brand new computer less than a month old. It does not happen without 3rd party airports and I use addon linker so even with just the third party airport in that folder it happens. For example

inibuilds KDTW and KOKC seems to happen when in range of the airport loading

inibuilds KLAX does not happen when approaching

FSdreamteam KORD happens when on short final

FSdreamtream KIAH does not happen

I feel like it must be some setting I use within MSFS or more people would have been experiencing it

Are you using GSX? If you are, try without it.

Just a case of some third party airports being a bit resource heavy or poorly optimised.  It happens to me a lot with addon airports and addon photoscenery and it's just a case of these taking a milisecond or two to load into vram causing a short stutter.

Addon traffic like FSLTL can also exacerbate the situation in my experience.

Not a lot you can do about it unless the airport dev provides an option to leave a few things out of his scenery.

inibuilds are notorious for this, especially KDTW, KLAX, and KJFK.  They have a lot of detail.  But i also get this with the Asobo KDTW as well no matter what, to the point i stopped flying there.  A lot of people experience this so its not just you.  They are resource hogs.

Check your VRAM usage when it happens, some 3rd party airports eat up your available VRAM very quickly which cause huge stutters and pauses, I also have a 4070Ti and 12GB VRAM is not enough at some 3rd party airports with DX12.

Thanks I will monitor the vram and see if that is part of the issue

It's not you dave, I had this happen for the first time ever, this week.  I was flying TJBQ up to LatinVFR KMIA and I got terrible pauses coming in on final.  I thought I would have to exit the flight but luckily it stopped...

Unless it happens again, I am not too concerned about it.  It's always possible there was some sort of hiccup with the streaming data.

I used to have a similar problem. I would get a one second freeze then my VR headset would go black for a few seconds before returning to normal. Since upgrading my system last month (13900K, 4090, MB and RAM) it hasn't happened since ...knock on wood. I hope you find a solution (that's less expensive!! ..lol)
