October 29, 20232 yr Hello Folks; So my ISP just upgraded my network from 75/75 to 300/300 (not that I needed it) along with the latest and greatest Router since mine was over 10 years old. Now keep in mind I never had issues running MSFS 2020 with my old set up. Since the upgrade MSFS 2020 will hang on the "New Activity" loading screen using my Ethernet connection. I tried everything possible including disconnecting and reconnecting to get it to work, eventually it will connect but will get the message that the bandwidth is too slow which definitely should not be the case. The Wi-Fi works great no issues at all but it was just with the Ethernet which is normally the other way around in most cases. After days of searching the internet I came across 2 articles including MSFS stating that disabling Internet Protocol V6 (TCP/IP V6) addresses the problem, which I did via Ethernet Properties and it worked great no issues, My question is has anyone else experienced the same issue and have they tried something else that worked. Not sure why this will only affect MSFS 2020 granted that I don't do any other games or simulation on my PC, so I am not sure what other games my be affected. Again, this only occurs with Ethernet not Wi-Fi which has "Internet Protocol V6 (TCP/IP V6)" enabled. Strange. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Kindest Regards. Forshaw. .
October 30, 20232 yr Interesting case! Will follow the thread ! Hope there's feedback coing from other users with identical networking conf. October 30, 20232 yr I am running Windows 10 To work MSFS needs the Teredo protocol (It is part of the mechanisms of transition from IPv4 to IPv6 and consists of encapsulating IPv6 packets in UDP datagrams over IPv4 between the client and the Teredo relay, with the help of a Teredo server.) A priori, I would say that enabling IPV6 on Windows 10 while using software that uses Teredo can not work well. Apparently this problem would have been solved under Windows 11. I just made a flight on LFPO with awful lags, I deactivated IPV6 on the fly and then relaunched the same flight and there very fluid. October 30, 20232 yr in my case, this freezing problem during sim boot up for about 2-3 min (at around new activities screen) started after SU12, tried with IP V6 on/OFF, with Ether net or WI-FI with no change. October 30, 20232 yr Had something similar when I got a new router a few months back. Although as you stated your internet connection is working along with your access to the web. Does windows 10's taskbar show you have internet. My issue ultimately came down to the changes in my router settings somehow did not allow the MS internet check to be completed even though my connection and operation were fine. Ultimately MSFS utilized that same check in the system to determine if I "had" internet access, and wouldn't get beyond the startup screen. I ended up modifying the internet access check in the registry to point at a third party site that worked, and ultimately allowed MSFS to see that all was working and continued to load. Probably not your issue, but worth a look at your system tray icons.....

A couple of inaccuracies here. MSFS doesn't use IPv6 so whether you have IPv6 enabled or not doesn't matter. To test if MSFS uses IPv6 simple turn off IPv4 and try to connect - it won't. Second, Teredo has long been deprecated and is not in use. If your ISP supports IPv6 then it will use dual stack native IPv6 and native IPv4 - no encapsulation is done. With that said, most web resources that support IPv6 *prefer* IPv6 if it's available on your host, but if it's not then it will simply use IPv4. There is no "IPv6" encapsulation in use unless you decide to use an IPv6 tunnel broker like Hurricane Electric's popular service. If you want to know if IPv6 is actually being used (not just enabled) type in "what's my IP address" in google and it will show you an IPv6 128-bit address. If not it will show your IPv4 32-bit address. Either way, it makes no difference to MSFS servers. So if you're having connection issues there is something either misconfigured on your router or on your PC. HTH, Mike T.

October 31, 20232 yr Author Hi Folks; Thanks for all of your responses, I appreciate it. So I can across this from MSFS 2020 FAQ. ENABLE PORT FORWARDING In some cases, your router may be blocking communication with Microsoft Flight Simulator servers. Unable to Connect is a typical error message associated with this issue. To resolve this, you may need to manually forward these ports. Every router is a little different. If you run into problems with this guide, try searching your routers’ support site for a more detailed guide on Port Forwarding. Open your Web Browser (ex. Microsoft Edge, Firefox, etc.) Type your Default Gateway into the URL Address bar to Access Your Route You may be prompted with a popup window requesting your Username and Password Check your router manual for info on the default gateway Look for the Port Forwarding page once you have you are on your router’s configuration page Add entries for Microsoft Flight Simulator using the following port ranges: TCP: 3074 UDP: 88, 3074, 30000 to 31000. Port forwarding will not improve the quality of your connection to the game servers. It will only help in cases where you are unable to contact the Microsoft Flight Simulator servers while you are online. My ISP just sent me another New Router (they all say it's new but sometimes it's not) so I will try it and see if I have the same problem. Maybe my current Router has a setting that's blocking the Server. If the problem persists I will then have to try Enable Port Forwarding and or confirm other settings. Again, this issue only started once I upgraded my Router, nothing else changed. Thanks again. Kindest Regards. awc.
