Retain aircraft state / failures

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if there is an addon that simulates failures? For example, if you leave the pitot heat on the cj4 longer than 5 mins on the ground I believe it can burn out/damage the aircraft. It would be good if somehow the aircraft had a real state and this was detected and you were penalised etc…

There are various airplanes that simulate failures to some degree. The most complete simulation (including circuit breakers, state preservation etc.) that come to my mind are the Milviz/Blackbird Cessna 310R and the A2A Comanche.

I was hoping more for an add-on that would work with multiple planes. I remember back in XP11 I once had a plane that even had correct oil temperature.

I'm not sure, from a technical perspective, it would be possible to create a generic add-on that would cover multiple aircraft. Most failures are not handled inside the sim, because every aircraft has a totally different set of equipment, electrical layout, systems, etc. So I can't really think of a way to make anything like that.

Pilot failure comes to mind!  😉

Not sure in terms of failures, but the Hjet does some things like this conceptually.  It will load with shades, doors, dials, ground power.  I realize this is not exactly what you are asking for.  But I've always liked this touch.  I know the maddog MD-80 did failure persistence in p3d, but not sure if that's also in MSFS.  I personally do not fly with failures these days.

I don't think that exists. But if you check out those two planes, they have correct oil temperature for sure, plus a lot more. In the Comanche, for instance, oil color changes with wear and tear. There videos about both airplanes, well worth watching 🙂

I don't know if you use it, but the latest version of Lorby AAO (Axis and OHS) comes with a built in Wear & Tear module, which is said to include failures.  And yes, it works on .... most aircraft.

I'm an avid AAO user but haven't had time to upgrade to the latest version yet, as I'm still copying content and installing onto my new PC.

Might not do what you're after but it is applicable to all (or most) aircraft, so maybe worth a look.

That looks good! I'll check it out...

Simulating pitot heat failure shouldn't be too difficult with this but if there is no template for this you'd have to built your own.
I doubt you will be able to trigger a circuit breaker but disabling the pitot tube might work. Problem is that many aircraft have multiple pitot tubes so that complicates things.

It is a shame MSFS2020 does not have a failure/damage system built-in.

Yes, this looks very promising. You can use the customizations of the individual aircraft (LVars) and the system variables. These should be able to flip circuit breakers, stop fuel flow, etc.
