December 20, 20232 yr Hi all I am looking for a widebody for the christmas holidays as I'll have time to fly longer routes. Good performance is essential to me, think PMDG 737-700 level. And as for detail, well I like reasonable detail but I'm not fussed about the uber detailed stuff with blemishes on the break disks modelled. I like a relatively realistic flying experience with VNAV and LNAV, and a decent FMS, but I'm not looking for absolute study level engine management and parameters etc. The closest thing I've thought about is the default 787, but I have the basic version of MSFS. Any thoughts? TIA.
December 20, 20232 yr The default 748, or the Headwind A330 (although I'm not sure about VNAV managed modes). Or pay for the MSFS Premium Deluxe upgrade and you get a 787-10 I didn't include A310, because it became so buggy after SU14... December 20, 20232 yr There really aren't any great options for heavies in MSFS still. For long-range flying I currently use the PMDG BBJ1 (737-700 bizjet variant), which has a ~6000 nm range when equipped with a full compliment of extended range tanks. December 21, 20232 yr The 787 is a really great option for heavies whether you mod it or not, obviously you need PD version of the sim. I would 100% spending your money on that. People here all seem to rave about the PMDG 737s but I think they’re an old product and are lacking in realism in many areas now for people trying to replicate airline operations.

December 21, 20232 yr I'd stick with the default 747/787 for now, and save the money for when PMDG drops the 777. Which shouldn't be too terribly long now - it's in beta. Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light
December 21, 20232 yr Default 748 is the OP's best option as he/she clearly stated do not own the Premium Deluxe edition. Nothing will beat the PMDG 737-800BBJ in semi/long range in MSFS at the moment until they release their 777 for ultra long hauls. Edited December 21, 20232 yr by JBDB-MD80

All IMHO others will have different experience and opinion but since you asked . . . A more realistic LNAV especially one that allows RF legs and RNPar approaches. The ‘On approach logic’ is also better on the 78 than 73 Many of the Boeing procedures can be replicated more faithfully on the 78 than the 73 imho especially now the base 78 has an opt function on the efb linked to the FMC. To me operating the 78 in the sim feels closer to real life than operating the 73 does. Edited December 21, 20232 yr by g-liner

The 777 might for longhaul, if it has a new LNAV logic, if it’s the same old one from before then I’d have to disagree.

What is better than PMDG in the sim now as far as LNAV for a wide body, default? Fenix may be better but they don't have a wide body in the sim so it has to be WT 787or 747. The WT 787 flies them beautifully. lots of WT aircraft can do this now. PMDG aircraft have great overall systems depth but their LNAV logic in particular is old now and hasn’t been updated.

December 21, 20232 yr Author I would splash out on the premium version if the 787 was really good. I see has been modded. Can I expect frames on a par with the PMDG 737? That's kind of my baseline for good performance and realism at the same time. The Headwind is good, and improving I think. But at the moment I cannot bring myself to fly an A330 with an A320 cockpit. Might fire up the B747 Salty add on... Edited December 21, 20232 yr by Langeveldt
