January 14, 20242 yr I am just getting back into flight sim and bought the enhancment for the Cessna 172 Skyhawk. For some reason I am unable to get it started. I followed the checklist, watched videos, and read the manuel but can only get it to crank and not actually start up. I have no problem getting the Textron version to start following the checklist. I have unistalled then reinstalled the the enhancment just incase it was a bug. Just can not figure out what I am doing wrong. Fuel selector is set to both and fuel cut off is pushed in. If I start on the runway I have no problems, engine is running and everything is fine. So I know it must be something I am missing on startup. I uninstalled all my airport addons and not using a liverie or anything. Has anyone using this addon had a similiar issue? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks!!
January 14, 20242 yr Administrators Do you have the mixture lever pulled out before start and then pushed in when turning the key to start? January 14, 20242 yr Author Yes. I think I had it 1/4 open then pushed it all in when starting. Honestly, I have tried so many different variations but have not had any luck. I just tried again going through the complete checklist and still can't get it to start up. It cranks but it is like it is not getting fuel. When I turn on the fuel pump I can see that I am getting fuel flow though. The default Cessna 172 starts right up but not this one for some reason.
January 14, 20242 yr Administrators You did the priming procedure also? January 14, 20242 yr As well as the (large) red mixture knob, there's a smaller red fuel cut off lever, that can be easy to miss, down the panel, towards the main fuel tap. Follow the start-up procedure according to what is described on page 8 of the manual, if you still do not succeed, you will most likely have any of the maintenance failures described on pages 9-10. https://dxhb0it26is40.cloudfront.net/manuals/WBSim_172X.pdf#page27
January 15, 20242 yr Everyonce in a while a have the same issue 🙂 What I do is push forward thrust and pulldown the mixture. Then it fires up. Intel i9-13900K, GIGABYTE GAMING Z790, GeForce RTX4090, 32GB
January 15, 20242 yr Just to test : does CTRL+E works? Have you check the engine status via the fake DME avionic display ? Vincent B. Check my free MSFS sceneries : https://flightsim.to/profile/vbazillio/trending and my hardware configuration.
January 15, 20242 yr Author Thank you everyone for all your help and suggestions. I fired up the sim this morning to try out the suggestions I was given and it cranked right up. The only thing I did different is I did not prime the aircraft this time. Not sure if I was flooding the engine by turning on the fuel pump for 3 seconds or what was going on. But it has started up three times in a row without priming, I will try it again in a few and run the fuel pump for a few seconds before startup and see if that was the actual problem. I have noticed that when I turn my Avionics Master on the Garmin's do not come on. The VOR steam gages do not move either. Watching youtube videos, it looks like everything should respond and light up as soon as the Avionics Master is switched on. I will have to try and figure out what is going on with that. But at least I can crank her up now. Thanks for all the help!
January 15, 20242 yr Author Disregard the Avionics issue. I got that sorted out. So for now everything is running/working perfect.
June 3, 20242 yr I could not start the WB SIM 172 last week, could not even get the prop to start spinning, accu voltage was too low. How can I restore that? Another WB SIM 172 Livery did start without problem. June 3, 20242 yr Same problem here after the last update, I used Ctrl-E eventually. I also fell into the trap that failures etc are now only accessible when power is off, and I had forgotten how to recharge the battery after all my failed attempts to start the engine. This is all well documented, but when you run into these problems during a VR flight, it sure is an immersion killer to get out of VR and consult the manual.
June 3, 20242 yr I had a similar problem with a dead battery after doing the update. Couldn't see a way to charge it. Turning off state saving and starting a new flight fixed it.

When you are parked at an airport, and IN a parking spot, you can click the “INOP” breaker to initiate the battery charger. The charger will be visible on the outside whilst the battery is charging. With your power switch on, hovering over this breaker will show you the battery voltage as it charges (assuming the sims tooltips are on). Eventually, your clock will show voltage too and your annunciator will come to life, as in real life.
