Microsoft flight simulator standard

Featured Replies

I have purchased the 10 CDs for the Microsoft flight simulator standard game for pc but cd 1 won't read to install  I've contacted a company called Aerosoft and they have sent me a new cd1 out for the game I've tried this and it's still won't read the disc I have a brand new pc I have even tried cd2 and that work fine it reads the information on the disk it's just cd 1 is this a popular thing for this game and any help would be great alsonove true to copy the cd to desk top to see if that will let me install the game but nope

Are you able to access the contents of CD1? If so, you could always try copying the contents of the disk to a folder on your C:\ drive, and then running the installation from there. I have done that in the past with some scenery DVDs for P3D.

Why?

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Why?

Because my son has the throttle and stick

And wanted to play it but it won't work on Xbox 1 or on the cloud

I'm thinking they are asking why, as in why not just purchase the download version instead of messing around with CDs?

Oh sorry 🤣 because apparently with the flight throttle I have  it won't work with the down load version because it uses the Xbox app  and because the throttle won't  work with the cloud so it has to be fully installed on my pc for it to work 🤷 that's what I was told by Microsoft but can't run the cd1 for it to install

Could you elaborate on this? I'm not quite sure what you mean. A flight throttle (do you mean joystick) should work with MSFS regardless of the way it was installed.

The CD version is over 3 years old. It is version 1.0 of MSFS, released in August of 2020. Even if you did not have CD problems, and succeeded in installing it, the very first thing that would happen the first time you launch it, is that it would go online and download probably 100GB of data (at least) to bring MSFS up to the current version. You cannot use MSFS online unless it is the latest version.

Considering how much data has to be downloaded to bring the obsolete CD version up to the current version, you’d be better off going with the download version to start with, because effectively, all the old CD content has to be updated. The XBox app or the “cloud” should not prevent your throttle or any other peripheral from working.

If you have a 2nd pc with a cd drive, share the drive over the network and try installing it from there. Or use 2nd pc to rip the cd to an iso.

The CD thing was a collector's kinda thing...  very pointless purchase imo.  As Jim described you'll still need to go online and you'll need an xbox live account (has nothing to do with xbox console) to update MSFS and keep it updated.

Any USB joystick/throttle should work in MSFS.  What is the exact name of the device you're trying to use?

Yeah that absolutely works with the steam or windows online version.

I don't know who told you it didn't!

If I were you, I'd just try to return the CDs.  But if you can't, take the loss and get the Premium Deluxe version from Steam or Windows

That makes no sense.  It's a USB device.  Do they perhaps mean like a cloud service like GeForce Now?  Where you just hook any old device up and you have a powerful gaming system in the cloud?

Many games have stored files in the cloud now.  Thrustmaster even shows a video of it in MSFS.

On the Xbox console that I don't know for sure...  I don't have one but you're saying it isn't recognized if you just plug it into the xbox?
