MSFS Auto FPS App

All in all I am seriously blown away by what this app can do, to have a flight sim looking and performing like this does is just fantastic. Best thing is for someone like me who is extremely watchful over CPU and GPU temps, both were in the mid to late 50° for the entirety of both flights.

Wholeheartedly agree! The app will let us squeeze every bit of performance out of our precious hardware, running very high graphics settings, AND still being able to maintain a comfortable target FPS WITH AI traffic. It’s mindblowing.

Just departed from iniBuild’s KJFK w/ FSLTL in the Fenix V2 on a short hop to Ronald Reagan. Smooth all the way despite this scenario hitting both my GPU and CPU hard!

I’m just hoping there’s no copycats out there who have exploited Reset’s brilliant coding 😞

You will find that its added a new rogue exe.xml file in what it expected to be the default install path on your C drive.

AutoFPS only edits an existing EXE.xml if it finds it. It does not create an EXE.xml if it doesn't exist and I don't want it to as that is too presumptive of what a user wants. You have to create it manually at the moment and the instructions are in the readme. I may add an auto EXE.xml create in future but I first want to make sure that I am not overstepping my mark by doing so.

First, thank you for an incredible app.  It has improved my flight sim display capability and associated performance greatly.

In the spirit of your request for possible improvements or enhancements to it, would it be possible to code a "Night Mode" toggle for the "on top" window?  The big bright white one works fine for daytime flights, but for night flights it's a big bright white box that is eye-numbing when displayed on a night flying display.  Could you include say a dark grey (or even black?) background for the box with appropriate lettering colors on it for night flying?  With a simple toggle switch (mouse click, etc) to switch from Day to Night mode?  It's not a show-stopper if no, but the "on top" box would be much less distracting for night flying if it had a "Night Mode" color scheme instead of a blinding white background one.

That makes sense. I'll add that to the wish list.

Many thanks for your good advice, Reset!

I changed DLSSG from 1 to 0 in UserCfg.opt and, voila, now the Auto FPS app detects correct FPS on all screens. I shall now try the App again and see if I can tweak it to work optimally on my system.

Thank you very much!

Yay! I'm glad we got that one sorted as it was a bit tricky to uncover. I'll add a note to the FG section in the readme to cover this. Thanks for letting me know the outcome.

So there is a new one called SmoothFlight: https://sites.google.com/view/meeshtrax/smooth-flight-app

So now there is three diffrent apps.

edit. Seems, that this new Smooth Flight has same taskbar icon than AutoFPS. I dont know what is the deal here. And it says "autoFPS is allready" running.

I had a quick look at the "competition" 😄

It looks to me like a spin off of the DynamicLOD_ResetEdition code base, back when I first introduced TLOD changes in cruise, with a different UI and some earlier bits of AutoFPS thrown in. As such, some of the functionality is a bit dated but there are some new features thrown in. It also has a much more manual installation process.

I'm a bit disappointed there appears to be no attribution to either me or especially @Fragtality, as it was mostly his code at that time, but hey what can you do?

I'll leave it up to you guys to determine which one suits you best, but I will continue to develop DynamicLOD_ResetEdition and AutoFPS, and for the latter I have some really cool ideas that are starting to come to fruition so stay tuned for that.

I took a quick look at it, your app seems much more polished and simpler to use.

FYI, I have put the following comment on VR Fly Sim Guys's youtube review of this new SmoothFlight app as I have been stewing a bit more since I found about about its release without attribution for my and Fragtality's effort:

  • While I am pleased for everyone to see another tool like this for the community, this new app clearly has strong DynamicLOD and AutoFPS origins from earlier versions, as evidenced by artifacts in the files and features it offers. I am fine with this, as my apps were released as open source.
  • What I am not fine with is the author claiming it was his creation and providing no attribution to either myself or the original DynamicLOD author, Fragtality, who did most of the base development effort. My software license now includes an attribution requirement on reuse, so if I am not appropriately attributed for my contribution I will no longer be putting up my future source code changes for open use.
  • I do hope the author acknowledges and acts on this so we can work collaboratively into the future.

Interesting how your comment appears to be missing from the video, unless I cannot see it (I am watching it on my phone).

It's still there, you just may need to sort by newest first to see it.

Is there anything in Windows event viewer under Windows logs Application for the moment the app and icon disappears? If so can you message me any associated error codes and log text for this app. Thanks

I found the solution. The TweakUI utility which came with my graphics card has an on—screen display function (OSD). It puts an OSD in the upper left corner of the screen in certain programs. One of the elements in the OSD is FPS. I saw that it was putting its OSD into the AutoFPS window.  As sooon as I turned that OSD off, AutoFPS began to work properly.

Further to what @Cpt_Piett has posted about not posting about this app on the MSFS forums about this app, please be advised this also extends to personal messages sent on that forum. I have updated the readme right at the top accordingly:

Really, really important:
