Are you aware this is how FSUIPC was created many years ago? It takes a very clever person to disassemble a executable and analyse the contents. The original UIPC was created by Adam Zofran and then P

Nice side effect I observed yesterday testzng this tool: VRAM usege on heavy airports is also slightly down with TLOD on 50.

Instead of choking Your work that way, they should have reached out to You, asking You to help implement it into the sim instead.

If they had been more clever, they would have added this in the early days of it´s release.

To be honest, many, many players do not like "automatic adjustments of graphics" provided by the game itself. Sounds paradox, but it is like that. Options like dynamic resolution scaling to maintain a certain FPS level are usually ignored by users, sometimes even commented as "they should rather get their stuff together and better optimize this game". I am pretty sure if MS/Asobo would have implemented the tool from ResetXPDR into their sim, reactions would be similar: why do we need something like this, better optimize your sim that such a setting is not needed.

So, for me it is totally fine they did NOT include it and we can have it as external tool to be used when I need it (for IFR flights from a heavy airport to another one) and to be turned off if not (e.g. when doing VFR sightseeing flights with a GA plane in the countryside).

It could have been implemented with the option to turn it On/Off.

Beside the slider for TLOD, OLOD and Cloud Quality setting, a simple tick box, called Auto, could have been added.

Optimizing graphics is also when not rendering things in the distance, that cannot be seen anyway, when You are on the ground.

An option in MSFS for these automatic optimisations would be good, but as stated, not everyone likes this kind of thing.  But it is like the sky colours thing we had going on a few months back.   Asobo have a lot to do, so they sometimes lag behind the curve a bit.

Disregard, wrong thread 😜

Haha, somehow I guess I'm not that unhappy that I missed that discussion during my 1yr sim/AVSIM absence 🙂

I’m just hoping there’s no copycats out there who have exploited Reset’s brilliant coding 😞

So we have actually 4 diffrent lod apps. Im not able to keep up with these.

In order with release date
1) Fragtaly's DynamicLOD https://github.com/Fragtality/DynamicLOD

2) ResetXPDR's DynamicLOD_ResetEdition https://github.com/ResetXPDR/DynamicLOD_ResetEdition

3) ResetXPDR's AutoFPS https://github.com/ResetXPDR/MSFS2020_AutoFPS

4) Meesh Trax's Smooth Flight https://sites.google.com/view/meeshtrax/smooth-flight-app

So, is there diffrences? You have time and passion to test them all.

I'm having trouble downloading this an maybe missing a step. I removed version 0.3.5, go to the site to download version 0.4.1. It downloads successfully, when I open the new version it gives me a critical error saying a pre-version is already runnng and when I open it up it still shows me version 0.3.5. I'm going around in circles. Bear in mind, I haven't had a chance to keep up with these threads and I'm slacking behind!

I probably do, and AutoFPS is the one I recommend. If you want more granular control (different TLODs at different altitudes), try DynamicLOD_ResetEdition.

As for the other two, I haven’t tested and probably won’t.

I would do the installation again. Make sure update is selected in the installer. Also make sure Windows Defender or antivirus software (if you have any) aren't blocking the installer (you should get warnings if this happens though).

Just needed the reboot and it's installed now. I shall put it to the test later. Thanks to Reset for his tireless work on this!

FYI, I have put the following comment on VR Fly Sim Guys's youtube review of this new SmoothFlight app as I have been stewing a bit more since I found about about its release without attribution for my and Fragtality's effort:

  • While I am pleased for everyone to see another tool like this for the community, this new app clearly has strong DynamicLOD and AutoFPS origins from earlier versions, as evidenced by artifacts in the files and features it offers. I am fine with this, as my apps were released as open source.
  • What I am not fine with is the author claiming it was his creation and providing no attribution to either myself or the original DynamicLOD author, Fragtality, who did most of the base development effort. My software license now includes an attribution requirement on reuse, so if I am not appropriately attributed for my contribution I will no longer be putting up my future source code changes for open use.
  • I do hope the author acknowledges and acts on this so we can work collaboratively into the future.

An update to this: I have been in contact with SmoothFlight's author and, after much discussion, it appears coincidental, not underhanded, that we both started working on AutoFPS-like functionality at around the same time and mine just got out there first. As such, I am reasonably satisfied that his recent work is his own and I therefore have no attribution expectations for me specifically.  We hold no grudge against each other and may even collaborate into the future.

There's something really weird going on now. When the sim launches, both versions 0.3.5 and 0.4.1 both launch and I get the error to say it's already running. I can click the "ok" on the error and the sim still loads as normal but what the hell is going on now? lol

I also get a double launch of FSUIPC7, which I have to click off the error for also. I think there comes a point when you have to stop adding things to the sim for quality of life fixes and just go back to basics.
