Thanks for all your great work for this App.
Is it possible to uninstall and/or deactivate the App if you, whatever reason, don't want to use it anymore, with reverting all the changes the app has done to the sim?
Do you recommend to backup any files before trying the App?

(Excuse if there are already answers to these questions anywhere in the two threads. Maybe a little FAQ-readme would be helpful for some users.)

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the link, unfortunately I didn't search for the FAQ on Github

No worries!

To uninstall, simply run the installer and choose uninstall. This will remove everything.

I'll let Reset answer the question about need for backup.

0.4.2.8 VFR mode

I’ve done 3 approaches now in the Paro “Valley of Death” in the Caravan, using Reset’s settings.

OtN2gsQ.jpeg

I’m happy to report that I’ve found no issues so far. No stutters below AGL 1000ft. As FPS is very high in this remote corner of the world, I could probably increase TLOD max.

GPU-Z is active. So far I haven’t seen any signs of those droids. I bet they’re hiding somewhere though, probable in one of the many nearby monasteries. I can assure you that I will find them! Of course if I fail, I shall assume full responsibility for losing them and apologize to Lord Vader (as I'm sure he has the capacity to be merciful).

By the way, I found it necessary to dedicate a separate folder for Leo (got 13 of him now) 🙂

There is already a readme containing a FAQ and install/uninstall section here.

The changes the app makes to the sim are only temporary while the app is running and it restores your original sim settings when it exits, so to uninstall completely you can just go ahead and run the installer and select the remove option and it will be gone completely.

Since the sim setting changes are temporary, there is no need back up any files before trying the app.

So, Cpt_Piett question for you.

I've been experimenting with the Auto version (using metrics similar to yours), and I find that using the VFR setting gives me a much better visual experience particularly on takeoff. With IFR I get a lot of melted buildings and the TLOD never seems to "catch-up".

Running a 3090 with an Ultra wide, so have to target 30 FPS. That said, with VRF settings I get a solid 35 FPS.

You seem to have done lots of trial and error with the mod, thoughts?

PG-buildings needs relatively high TLODs to be fully rendered in the distance. Probably not as high as in this video (where I wanted to demonstrate how good NYC can look at a very high TLOD: https://youtu.be/pcDYVACjar4?si=kAHNpZDleH-a29oZ. To get TLOD 600 OLOD 900 at 3000ft over Manhattan at 80 FPS, I had to tweak various settings until my face turned blue...

So far I've done much more testing with IFR expert mode, but for the last couple of days, I've had VFR mode on the testbench. Results with 0.4.2.8-test are so far very promising, as the stutter-problem below 1000ft seems to be gone. At least in remote areas in a GA (Caravan) aircraft. In dense areas, I would still use IFR. Next step is testing the Fenix around Paro in both VFR and IFR mode.

35 FPS without the frame gen mod is very good, as long as you don't get much stutters most of the time. If you do get stutters, you should reduce the load on the CPU (mainthread) as much as possible (less AI traffic, lower TLODs).

I find that avoiding melted PG-buildings in the biggest metropolitan areas (NYC, London, LA) is probably the most challenging task in the sim, as this conflicts with getting decent performance. It's almost impossible to have both decent performance and decent visual quality in these situations.

Will be very interested to see how the VFR v IFR testing goes.  Btw the video is spectacular.

You can get TLOD 600 OLOD 900 on a 77 inch screen?  if so, you might convince me to throw out my Ultra Wide.

I don’t know much about monitor size vs pixels, perhaps someone can educate me on that. But based on my (very) limited understanding, the number of pixels is the same on a large monitor as a smaller one. So the same GPU-power is probable needed (as long as resolution stays the same).

TLOD 600 required some serious tweaking though!

Just finished a test run in Nice, where I previously had stutters with VFR mode. Latest build seems to work much better. Caveat: Don't set TLOD min too high! I tried with 400 which caused stutters below 1000ft. 200 worked well though.

I25KMBT.jpg

gwlFD3D.jpeg

Note: Nice is not a PG-city. If it was, I probably would have to lower TLOD further.

Short video (4K processing should finish soon):

I hopped into the Black Square King Air after a short coffee break and took it on a nice scenic tour around the French, Italian and Swiss Alps. Got up to TLOD 975 with FPS not falling below my target of 65.

Btw, even at TLOD 975, Matterhorn really does not look that good in the sim.

Here's the log for my landing at LSGS Sion, Switzerland:

I'll squeeze in another short video as I'm still able to edit this post. This time from the PG-city of Zürich. After today's testing, I would say that the new implementation of VFR mode works really well - even in very dense areas, flying into major airports. Granted, with AI traffic, AutoFPS would probably lower TLODs to be able to meet the target FPS. Btw I lowered TLOD Min to 100 for Zürich.

Talk to me about average descent rate. Seem odd that it would be the same for VFR and IFR, generally an airliner has a very different fpm descent rate than an GA prop for example...

Latest build seems to work much better.

Is that 2.4.8?  I've only seen and used 2.4.6 and looked for later late this afternoon.  With 2.4.2 I have had freeze ups on my three most recent flights.  First two were at about the same altitude on climb out from KEDC enroute to KIND.  Happened both times at around 27,000 and just 1,000 ft on top of an overcast.  Same route.  Changed the route somewhat and was fine for 2+ hours, but froze MSFS at about 8,500 about 1,000 ft above an overrcast.  Had AutoFPS Decrease Cloud Quality selected.  My MSFS cloud setting was Ultrra.  Again feel compelled to mention I am with RTX 3080 and using the FG hack.  Will fly tomorrow with Decrease Cloud Quality deselected.

Talk to me about average descent rate. Seem odd that it would be the same for VFR and IFR, generally an airliner has a very different fpm descent rate than an GA prop for example...

I’ve just left it at default. Perhaps Reset can elaborate more on this.

0.4.2.8 yes. VFR mode works a lot better now as long as TLOD Min is set at a reasonable level. Which highly depends on how dense the scenery is.

The descent rate is just used to calculate the altitude band in which the app will adjust TLOD towards TLOD Min on a sliding scale. It's better to be too high than too low as a higher descent rate gives a larger altitude band which means TLOD has more time to adjust down so the TLOD steps are smaller which should be smoother.

In any case, the value I put in there is just a starting value and you can change it to whatever you want. What do you suggest I put in as the default descent rate for VFR?
