1)just wondering if there are any material differences between this and smooth flight?

I don't use smooth flight sorry so I have no comparison experience to tell you.

I have just formally released AutoFPS version 0.4.2.10. You can read about it and download it here. In summary, it is a minor update to 0.4.2 that provides new options to address stuttering issue

As some users have requested, I've added a slightly darker background variant to the 0.4.2.10 release page, the direct link for which is here. The two versions are otherwise identical. A side-by-

1) maybe the developer can answer this

2) only when the app is active (cloud quality, TLOD, OLOD)

3) just run the installer and there’s an option to uninstall which removes everything

Thanks for the comment!

thanks shall give it a try then......

1)so assume if you uninstall it all reverts back to your original PC and VR settings?

2)As I use VR and sometimes 2d are there separate profiles for each?

1) Yes. In fact, everytime you close AutoFPS, everything will revert back to normal. Reset - please correct me if I'm wrong.

2) No. But you could use different settings in VFR/IFR flight type for this (expert settings).

I recommend having the same OLOD in 2D/VR, entering in VR and out, this app can retain the 2D one, if it is higher and giving less performance.

There are separate Target FPS saved for VR and 2D, but the rest of the settings are currently shared between the two.

BTW, apart from your first question asking for a comparison of AutoFPS to SmoothFlight, the rest of your questions are covered in the readme, which I suggest you read before asking any more questions that are not already covered in the readme.

Seeking some advice. When using autofps, every... Say... 10-15 minutes? Maybe more, maybe less. But periodically, the sim will lock up. It'll be fine after a moment, but it freezes for at least 10-20 seconds before going back to normal. Is this something to be expected, or an edge-case issue? Just looking for help. Googling stuttering and freezing with the program don't seem to net me much results aside from this thread, and even then I can't seem to find this particular issue (I may just be dumb in how I type it out). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I removed AutoFPS and found the issue continued. So it may not in fact be from the program. Though I never had this issue before using it. App settings were just to maintain 60fps where possible. Didn't go into the advanced settings. I couldn't find an actual uninstall, either. So I've just removed the autofps directory. If it's still launching a process even without the HUD/UI up that may have something to do with it. Specs are:

ROG STRIX Z790-A (DDR4)
32GB RAM
RTX 4080

If this isn't the issue, great. I really love using it. But it means I need to figure out otherwise. If it is...Gotta find out why. Thank you for your response. I should've had the presence of mind to post the particulars ahead of time, sorry!

And perhaps your current MSFS Graphics settings configuration.

See these type of lockups as well but on a much older/slower system. Just got used to them :)

If you were running AutoFPS version 0.4.3.1 then there is very minimal direct interaction with MSFS. About the worse you would experience with this program is a large stutter of maybe up to a second if it increased TLOD significantly in one go when it was initialising but otherwise you should only ever experience minor stutters at most when it has been running for a while and most usually no stutters at all.

The fact that the issue continues when you removed AutoFPS pretty much tells you it is not the cause. BTW, to completely remove AutoFPS properly, rerun the installer and select remove.
