I’ve seen it modelled in P3D v5 so I imagine so. Whilst the moon may obscure most of the sun I doubt any sim will model the corona.

Being that I'd have to drive 13 hours to see it I think I'll try flying it in the sim. I did drive down to Sante Fe, New Mexico to see the Ring of Fire eclipse last year. Most memorable thing about it was how cold it got when the sun's radiation was blocked. The air temperature did not drop, but I felt cold. Everyone was grabbing their jackets.

That would be an annular and of limited interest. No corona is visible. If I told you the next in your part of the world is in 2045 maybe you’ll change your mind.

I thought a 13 hour drive wasn’t far for you colonials. 😁 Fire up that SUV!

Fr Bill, if you’ve never witnessed one before it will take your breath away. Only temporarily of course. 🤣

I was lucky enough to witness one in...2015 or 2016?  and now another one here in 2024.  Complete totality, both times.  I wonder what the odds of that are of happening at the same spot.  It is beyond strange to see the street lights come on, and the darkness.

It’s very rare for one place to see two total solar eclipses in anyone’s lifetime. Consider yourself very fortunate. Make the most of it.

If only we had been born in the first half of the 22nd Century, Ray. There are seven total solar eclipses visible from the UK between 2133 and 2200!!

Maybe we should invest in a couple of suspended animation pods?

I saw the one in July 2019 down here. Although Córdoba was outside the path of totality, we practically enjoyed sunsets in less than 2 hours. Beautiful 😍. I only think what if I've taken the trip to the path of totality. It was just 150 km south...

Gotta convince my brother to take the trip to Dallas. He lives a bit north of Houston. He'll get a bit of darkness, but won't be under the path of totality, unlike Dallas.

I can assure you that if you make the effort you won’t be disappointed. Check weather forecasts to ensure Dallas will have clear skies. 99% eclipsed still won’t show the majesty of totality. 😉

It wasn't when I was younger . Also I live in Denver. I only drove east across the plains once before to attend an Avsim conference in Wichita. Thought I was going to fall asleep at the wheel from boredom.

We are in the perfect line in Horseshoe Bay, Tx. We are expecting many thousands of visitors here.

Buffalo is right in the sweet spot for viewing as well, except of course for our sketchy weather.  We just don't see a lot of sun in April (not until the summer months).  60-70% of our days in early April are cloudy.

We are crossing our fingers. Possibility of clouds. Typical Texas weather. Seldom cooperates.

I trust those planning to view the eclipse have their plans sorted now. How will you record it? Smartphone? DSLR? Video? Or just watch with the Mk 1 eyeball?

Always remember never to look at the sun even when it’s 99% eclipsed. It will still cause permanent damage to your eyes. Totality is fine. 👍
