Simbrief & restricted airspace (Middle East)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know a way to program the routes that are currently in use (eg on FR24) to represent the current real life situation? I had hoped it might be automatic on Simbrief but if it is I can’t find an option. I tried a few routes from Kuala Lumpa and Singapore going West (eg to Paris and London) but couldn’t find any preselected ones that match the current detours in place.

Thanks

Do you mean detours in relation to the conflict zones in the middle east and Ukraine (and possibly others) ?

When Simbrief creates a suggested routing, there are sometimes other alternatives, down at the bottom of the flight planning page.  If you click on those, then look at the map, it would show any that appear to be deviating around the regions in question.

That's all I can think of.   Or looking at FR24 and trying to decipher the route manually, to enter into your FMS - that sounds labour-intensive!

You can also specifically tell Simbrief to not give you a route through a specific airspace under the "Route Finder" option using the "Avoid Airways/Fixes/SIDs/STARs/FIRs" section.

Usually Simbrief has a few options including recently used real world routes so try some of the alternatives they provide.

I believe the airspace over much of the Middle East is now reopened though, so you won’t find real world routes impacted by last night’s airspace closures.

Last night I flew Bucharest to Amman, Simbrief's suggested routing was far South of the conflict zones and went a long way extra to avoid them....

Simbrief offers up the real world routing of flights, e.g. the one BAW use for their flight 007 from EGLL to RJTT.

Ukrainian, Russian and North Korean airspace all avoided for political and safety reasons.

Edit: Looked up WSSS – EGLL routings. Under 'Suggested Routes', there's one marked as a Simbrief option that follows the route used by the real world BAW12.

radarbox will sometimes have route data on the flight page that you can copy and paste into the Simbrief box.

FlightAware does as well, but seems to be only for North American and Australia/New Zealand flights.

Appreciate the replies everyone and this gives me something to look into and expand my knowledge on simbrief as well as real world routing.

Thanks Matt! That was something I particularly appreciated in PFPX… good to know.
