Inssue PreciptFX no chemtrail

Featured Replies

Hello, I bought PreciptFX today (06/07/2024) (https://orbxdirect.com/product/p42-precipitfx).
I have P3D 4.5 and it's not working, I installed everything ok, but I open the simulator and it's already stressing me out. I didn't receive any activation, I just opened Orbx Central and installed it in the folder where it asks to install (C:\Users\johnn\AppData\Roaming\Orbx\Central\Integrations\Parallel 42), but I can't get anything. I know I have to disable "Detailed precipitation" (it's off) and "effects" are in medium...
I'm already getting VERY stressed... 9 dollars wasted?? I knew I shouldn't buy this, because I never saw anyone recommending it. I was thinking about buying the 747, but I'm not buying it anymore... to have to humiliate myself for an effect, something simple? my God...

I bought and used PreciptFX for years when I used P3d, it's a fantastic addon. How are you certain that it's not working?

Try uninstalling the add on and try to install again. Obviously people here would rather poke fun at you instead of trying to help. If the issue is not resolved post at the Orbx General Discussion forum and see if anyone has an answer for you there. Good luck.

Did you get this working ?

Was the PrecipitFX Configure option in Orbx Central run after the installation ?

What it should do is install its own effects and scan the aircraft.cfg to add the effects.

I bought it waayyy back when the company was OldProp and it worked well and was quite fast to scan.

That said... I found the migration to an Orbx install system changed the scan rate from fast to really, really, really slow.

Although I haven't actually run the application to update for some time though.

So there are a couple of ways to see if it's installed.

  • You'll have PFX effects in the P3D effects folder.
  • The aircraft.cfg will have PFX entries under the [effects] section.
  • There will be a backup of the aircraft.cfg named along the lines of "aircraft.cfg.fsfx_VFX_PFX.bkp".

The PFX effect file names are cryptic and look something like "fsfx_PFX_<a long alpha-numeric-number>.fx"

I also comment out the vaportrail effects (there are a left and right), as they as they produce a naffy looking long line of circles thing which might have been good back in the day for FSX performance but I don't like the effect myself. The configure tool calls them Wingtip Vortices.

Cheers

Just to add:

  • The product contains a tool that sets and removes the entries in the aircraft.cfg's and should be used
  • Contrails depend on environmental factors, according to this thread by TAT and altitude
that's why contrails are visible in a Learjet or Falcon, but not in C172 😉 :
