The second was never officially a possibility, it was something the users started to talk about with no real indication it would happen. Personally I don't see that much difference myself, but there we go. I should say that I think subscription access to any game is a horrific idea but clearly it seems work for some people. June 25, 20241 yr The point is moot because the end of the trailer says it's coming to gamepass xbox and steam.

One is a library of 100s of titles, with all Microsoft first party games being added day one. The other is a single software/game. There's a huge difference for me. And yeah, I'm a game pass subscriber, but not because of MSFS, and I like it very much. Subscribing for one single game/software isn't ideal for me (unless I'm making some money out of it). 9800X3D@H150i // Msi RTX 5090 Trio OC // 64GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 // 2TB + 1TB Nvme Dell 27" 2127DGF - 1440p - Gsync - 165hz Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus // TCA Quadrant Airbus // TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals // Logitech Flight Multi Panel

I don't even know why people keep bringing it back so very often. Jörg never vented this possibility, it's something only the community is talking about. I think they are pretty confortable with their business model. The Market Place numbers are good enough to keep a constant flow of money for them. 9800X3D@H150i // Msi RTX 5090 Trio OC // 64GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 // 2TB + 1TB Nvme Dell 27" 2127DGF - 1440p - Gsync - 165hz Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus // TCA Quadrant Airbus // TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals // Logitech Flight Multi Panel

It's still gating continued access to MSFS behind an ongoing fee and leaving you subject to the corporate whims of MS. How many other things are also included is basically irrelevant in my personal assessment. Edited June 25, 20241 yr by Matchstick

If Microsoft comes out with a new version of MSFS every 4 years (ie. MSFS 2028, MSFS 2032, etc), while it's not technically a subscription model, it kind becomes a long term revenue stream for them, for people that aren't on Gamepass and prefer buying MSFS. So I don't think Microsoft is going to have a subscription model for MSFS. Instead, they will just come out with a new version every 4 years or so. But I don't mind this, as long as every new version after 4 years is a nice leap in technology. MSFS 2024 looks like a nice leap in technology, with respect to the ground and scenery details. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM

Back to the historic model of game franchises, then. Every couple of years you get to pay a standard amount for a new iteration with the new technologies and maybe an upgraded engine, and new features. It's more like Call of Duty than it's not. You don't *have* to buy the newest version but if you want all the cool new stuff and to be on the platform most people are on, you shell out your $70.

Back in the day, Microsoft used to have a cadence of 2 years, for each new flight simulator. FS 98, FS 2000, FS 2002, FS 2004, and FSX. I assume their cadence now will be 4 years. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM

I think it's a great return to form, and I have no criticism for them going this direction unless FS24 turns out to be a nightmare of an upgrade (seems very unlikely). I'd much rather pay them every few years for a new game - back to the late 2000s! - than be milked dry by DLC for an aging engine over the next ten years. It feels like it's genuinely a good step forward for the community at large and keeping the hobby alive and invigorated.

An airport I can buy from Orbx and download in 2 minutes takes an hour or more from MS. They urgently need to address this. Interesting. My experience is that marketplace purchase download roughly 5-10 times faster than Orbx. 130 Mbps vs 20 Mbps. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
