Saving a flight

Featured Replies

Hello all,

A quick one for you.

I wish to create a new flight Cold and Dark start at a jetway or just parked. I am wanting to learn the Airbus and as such wish to create a cold and dark start and save it so that I can select this flight, get into VR and learn how to start and fly the aircraft as realisticly as possible. If I can creat this scenerio and save it, I can then practice all the procedures in VR.  I know it is not hard to create a cold and dark start on the ramp or jetway etc but to have the same flight available without having to set it up each and every time would be immensely practical for me.

I have googled till I am blue in the face and lots of cold and dark starts tutorials available but not what I want.as I am really looking for the save flight factor tp just select this each time until I am at least reasonably proficient.I am pretty sure I could do this in FSX and in FS2004 ... gee I miss FS2004 sometimes.

Anyway, Is this possible and how do I do it please.

I am just amazed that after so many years flight simming I am wanting to fly an Airbus for the first time LOL

Cheers

Tony

Andy.  Interested but the descripton at Simmarket is brief.  If you are using it would you describe just what can be saved with a fllight, especially in mid-flight?  What states of the aircraft at the time are saved, etc.

Hey Guys,

Like fppilot I found the description brief and largely uninformative. I went a little further and found two demo videos about it which, in reality, were even less informative with no narration.

I did not have a clue what  was going on. I can only hope that the demo was not a developers version because it did them no favours whatsoever.

So, andymandy, I too would like to add my voice to request a little further information about this product if you have it.

A little sad that MSFS2020 has not found it feasible to include this feature in this software.  I am pretty sure it was included in FS2004 and also FSX but I am relying on an old and feeble memory.

I would have thought that it would not be terribly difficult to incorporate and I think it invaluable for users and not just for tutorials,

Thanks for your responses guys.

Which Airbus are you wanting to do this with?

airernie,

I was initially looking at the FBW 320 and if that goes well I would probably look at a payware aircraft (no research on which one done at this stage)

As far as I know, the FBW aircraft is more than competent and should provide a good basis prior to introducing a payware model.

Hello all,

It seems that positive feedback from users regarding Flightsave is not forthcoming.

Is there anyone who does actually use this programme who can really endorse it.

Personally until this post, I had never heard of it, so some input, for or against, should prove somewhat helpful.

Regards

Tony

Well. In agreement with you, today I set out on a search. First step was to explore this with what I already have.  Sim, addons, etc. So I started with nothing but the most basic.  Using the sim and relying on zero addons.

BINGO!

My first attempt was to start MSFS, use the World Map, select an aircraft and livery, and then select an airport and parking spot or gate.  That done I used the World Map Load/Save function, and while still cold and dark saved the "plan" with a unique filename.  I was sitting C&D in my Hjet, and my personal Baltimore Orioles livery, in a unique parking spot at my LVFR KMIA, From the World Map I saved that state as a new .pln file to my PC.

I exited MSFS, rebooted my system (absolutely not necessary but did so in this routine ro insure freshness).  I started MSFS and for my personal amusement set up a flight in a Blacksquare Turbine Duke from KMDW. Started that flight.

Then I migrated back to the World Map screen, loaded the saved Hjet/KMIA flight, and BINGO!  I am setting C&D in the Hjet with my Orioles livery, at the same gate I saved it from. I was a bit stunned.

Sometimes it is right there in front of us and we don't know.  I am certainly guilty on this one.

I'm off to set up a number of MSFS .pln files with selected aircraft and liveries at my usual airports at my usual starting spots.

fppilot,

Yea,

This actually works and works well.

I just tried it and it defaults to the default msfs location. I saved it to a different drive and it proved successful however it is more cumbersome that saving it to the default location.

The only reason I tried to do this is because I have my MSFS installed on a different drive and path to the default.

Next step is to resave it into the default for convenience sake.

However I really, really want to say "well done you" and as you say it is under our noses.  What threw me was reading a google article which stated categoricaly that this was  not possible with MSFS, and, that, is what prompted this post in the first place.

I hearted (?) this and I believe everyone else seeking this information should do also.

Again well done mate

Glad that it works now, I last tested it was a good while back and every time it ended with a CTD.

I'll give that a shot again now when I get the chance to fly again...

I've used saved flights with reasonable success to recover from freezes during journeys, fortunately not a problem I have anymore. One thing I've found though is that some variables are locked in with a loaded flight for me. Weather and time of day can not be changed (greyed out) once a flight is loaded. This means if I want to fly at dawn, midday, night or during a storm I have to save multiple flights in that condition as changing those settings is impossible after a reload.

Would be interested to hear if that's the same for everyone or just me. FYI I use active sky for weather. I can of course change what it injects but I cannot switch to manual weather in sim or change the time of day after a reload.

Flight save only works on PMDG and Leonardo please moan at developers and get your fellow simmers to support who are not interested. Until that happens it is a dead loss.

Flightsave product name is one word.  The way you presented the name, two words, might be construed to mean the native MSFS flight save feature, which is not limited to any developer(s).

The native flight save is only supported fully by Leonardo and PMDG . So far I can find no other .I suspect flightsave on simmarket will save everything but the panel. Orbx volanta does the same autosave etc just does not work with most planes.  For your plane not to fall out of the air a panel save is required.  . Personally I have not tried it. If it saves everything including FMC on say a fenix or any native asobo aircraft I would gladly pay a lot more for it.

Parrellel  42 flow pro will allow you to change time .and weather  after a save restore.
