FSS B727-200F Pre release review

Did I hear this right, only $42? I didn’t know the price was already set.

It seems the reviewers must have already been told that they can release that price because that's what Avgeek and V1 also said the price would be. Seems very reasonable.

Cheers

I must say, from the videos I have seen, I am liking the shape (seems spot on), the graphics, and the sounds (superb).
And they can do louder external noise when the windows are open, when some of the more established 'big boys' can't it seems.

Quite agree. The attention to sounds has been very pleasing.  Opening windows, properly textured and modelled wheel wells (not Capt Sim type photo textures, like one certain 'big boy' aircraft) and this texturing and modelling is extended to the aft air stair area too.  The whole thing is a very pleasant surprise almost out of nowhere.

This guy goes into more detail about how the doors work....

Ahh, thanks for that. The fwd and aft cargo holds were of particular interest to see how they had modelled them. The -100's had the doors opening inwards while the -200's had them opening outwards. This latter feature I think was to enable containers to be loaded without door interference. But, because containers could not go all the way back in the aft hold due to fuselage close out, a third door was fitted in some models to allow bulk cargo/baggage to be loaded in the empty space behind the containers. This third door which is not modelled in the FSS product opened inward like the -100's. Trivia I know but interesting to see the approach they have taken, that being the -200 with 2 outward opening cargo/baggage hold doors which was the most prevalent I imagine.

Cheers

Anyone know how many actual models will come in this package?

I have seen some previews that showed a model with winglet's and some others without.  Also one of the previews showed a model with hush kits and another without them.

This from their website: (my bolding)

Yes, there will be a passenger version for the 727-200. However, the timeline is still unclear as of today. It might be an update or perhaps a standalone product; we simply don't know yet.  It will be released when it's ready. Please note that the -100 is not planned to be covered at all.

Precise and highly detailed recreation of the B727-200 Freighter (interior & exterior)

Including winglet version.

Detailed cabin with cargo load.

Using native MSFS technologies like:

High resolution decals

Crisp and sharp liveries

PBR effects throughout

Custom icing model

Individual interior and exterior lighting

Hundreds of animations including wipers, seats, wingflex, etc.

Ground service docking config

Dynamic registration number

I understand from the V1 videos that the revereser buckets seen in those previews will not be included in final release and the final version will be hush kitted instead. That's a bit unfortunate in my view. I think they should have optioned this.

Remains to be seen if the wipers actually wipe!

Cheers

I have been praying for a "professional" or really decent 727s like the X-Plane12 FlyJSim-727s, or something like the masterpiece of Just Flight BAe 146 Professional, even with their nowadays vintage FMS, but please, not at the level of MSFS Local Legends, they are not bad, though.... These planes deserve more attention, thanks, please.

It looks to me that's exactly what we're getting here. Judging by all the previews, it really looks like FSS have gone for a far more complex simulation compared to the local legends series. I've been waiting for a new 727 in Microsoft land to fill the void the old Dreamfleet 727 left. I'm hoping this will be it. Only a few hours left to wait now hopefully.

I wonder why there’s so little marketing about this product with its release being tomorrow? Nothing on Aerosoft’s website where it will be available first, and hardly anything on their discord. Just seems strange so close to a release.

Sorry if already mentioned but I just noted this on the FSS Product Page for the 727F

“We currently have the following NAV equipment selectable:

  • GNS530 by WorkingTitle
  • GTN750 by PMS
  • GTNXi by TDS
  • CIVA INS by FSS

Additionally, there is always the option to navigate classically via VOR. We are also working on implementing the GNS-XLS, an older generation FMS that also offers lateral navigation. However, its completion is expected shortly after the initial release.”

Exciting options to make this classic manageable for all

Excellent, looks like some really nice, old, and original docs and tables in there. Thanks for posting, Greg 👍. I wish they used the term “Can” in instead of “EFB”. I started flying so long ago (apparently) that I still remember my instructors telling me to go grab the can before every flight. Aah, the memories 😎.

There is more interest in modern airliners is my guess.

I don't know, I feel like there's been about as much marketing done as you can without it verging on incredible hype.
All the big name streamers look to have showcased it, its been featured across all the flight sim sites and their discord is really active.

Short of an AviationLad trailer I can't imagine what else you'd do?

On another note, Flight Sim has been bringing back some of their past articles.
This one by Tony Vallillo is amazing if you want some extra hype – highly recommended reading.
He recounts his experiences flying the 727 since the 70s, with experience in just about every role you can have in the cockpit.

Thanks for the link, George, I’ll be reading that for sure. Regarding Discord, maybe I don’t have the right channel and or permissions as hardly see any posts about the 727, except 3-4 under their 727 announcement channel.

Cheers,

Pete

They have a really weird (at least for my old-school sensibilities) way of organising their Discord.
You have to "subscribe" to the 727 channel proper by clicking on the right emote in the welcome-Info channel (see image, the red circled bit)

This will give you access to the general talk and screenshots channels.
