So the best way I can answer this question is to refer you to FSimStudio's comments about the sales of their scenery products as MSFS 2024 approaches: source: https://discord.com/channels/808442309196775504/892211042661322803/1257449497370558506 As far as I know, Jorg has not released sales data for MSFS 2020. He has released the number of users that used/installed MSFS, but I don't recall him releasing sales data for MSFS 2020. Because of Gamepass, the number of users using MSFS 2020, or the number of users that installed MSFS 2020, isn't entirely helpful, because some users may be using Gamepass to use/install MSFS. Now MSFS 2020 does go on sale from time to time, and it has been on sale on Steam too from time to time. So when it goes on sale, it will affect the number of people purchasing it, of course. But based on what Gabriel from FSimStudios is saying, some people are waiting out for MSFS 2024, at least for the purchasing of 3rd party sceneries. I can only imagine that the sales of MSFS 2020 may be slowing down as MSFS 2024 approaches, based on the information from Gabriel. Anecdotally, I have seen Reddit threads where people ask about buying MSFS 2020, and the replies are usually something like "wait for MSFS 2024," or "just get Gamepass and use MSFS 2020 for the next few months, until MSFS 2024 comes out." Anyways, without concrete sales data from Jorg, nobody knows for sure. But I would guess as MSFS 2024 approaches, some people may be holding out purchasing MSFS 2020, and that would be consistent behavior with what Gabriel from FSimStudios is saying (but of course, if Microsoft or Steam have a discount on MSFS 2020, it may entice more people to buy it). Thank you @abrams_tank ! Then it is somehow affecting the sales, as expected ... Although we do believe some developers will eventually port their products to the new version, they'll probably debut with new products, exclusive for 2024... For instance, it wouldn't surprise me that major developers would announce their next expected product for 2024 only saying that previous products for 2020 would need work and be released when possible... For sure for MS and ASOBO the sales have long stagnated, not counting the inexpensive XBox subscriptions... Let's wait see what and when comes MSFS 2024.... I doubt that sales figures for MSFS 2020 as a stand alone product have been that exorbitant lately. But that‘s just a guess with zero evidence to support it. And if it is indeed still selling well, it might be because of their good marketing (eg World Updates) and because people know that addons will be compatible so they „only“ lose $50. That makes ZERO sense... sales figures for a product, are the sales figures FOR THAT PRODUCT... not of a different one like game pass that lets you play it...

I may have worded it somewhat clumsily. What I meant was that if 2020 is still drawing in new customers, then I guess that‘s mostly through Game Pass. MS have never communicated sales numbers so I assumed the OP was referring to new users. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2
August 9, 20241 yr I reckon that if Microsobo goes with the reverse-counter-osborne approach, sales will skyrocket. Jörg and MS executives already know this of course. With a net worth of $2.99 trillion as of August 9 and a market cap increase of 14.70% in the last year, we might be in for something spectacular.
