Well,

I mean, with MSFS 2024 having such a remarkably bright future, how come be MSFS 2020 is still selling so well ?

Do you have public sales figures for MSFS 2020?

NADA !

Hence the challenge for abrams 🙂

If MSFS 2020 is still selling that well (which I don’t know), it might most likely be because of Game Pass subscriptions. I doubt that sales figures for MSFS 2020 as a stand alone product have been that exorbitant lately. But that‘s just a guess with zero evidence to support it.

And if it is indeed still selling well, it might be because of their good marketing (eg World Updates) and because people know that addons will be compatible so they „only“ lose $50.

Yes, upward compatibility looks like a big factor, at least for a user likeme who have invested in a few good addons and look forward to be able to use them in the next version of MSFS, although I honestly doubt that each and every developer will offer free upgrades ...

It doesn't really matter if MSFS2020 is 'selling well' at the moment.

What are selling well are addons through the in-game market place. The number of users has achieved some sort of critical mass and it's this continuing purchasing power that is driving development and investment.

I would imagine sales will slow before the release of 2024 but once that's up and running the sim will provide a dual income source for Microsoft through new sim sales as well as the market place.

If they get this thing out in November as promised they're going to have a bumper Christmas.....

Indeed, the power of msfs is the marketplace! This is what was lacking in the former flightsims and this is a no brainer that LR wants to open a xplane store too.

It alows Microsoft/Asobo and soon LR to bring constant revenues, even when the initial income of the core flight simulator sales is gone.

And due to the Xbox market, Asobo has a powerful tool because this is the only way for xbox users to buy add-ons (Not sure the xplane store will have the same success, but hey, better than nothing for LR)

Honnestly, this was a game changer and it's one of the reason why we still have updates for msfs 4 years after release and that the msfs series might last over time.

They do?

Honestly, the Scenery Gateway is something MS should have shamelessly borrowed themselves, in time for launch of MS2020.

I'm not abrams_tank but I can guess that reason that MSFS2020 sells so good is because you get to keep all your purchases from marketplace and most vendors pledged free upgrade for 2024 . Why wait for tomorrow that if you can enjoy something today >

Because 2024 isn’t out yet

Absolutely, be glad to see when it is in full effect tbh. 90% of the airports I have landed at in XP have been quite impressive.

Looking forward to the day I get that with MSFS..

Edit: Good to see that they have added the missing runway to EIDW though !!

Apparently, yes.

I do agree that MS seems to have been slow to implement a user supported scenery gateway, but I do recall reading somewhere that this is more difficult to do in MSFS than it is in XP, perhaps because of the extensive use of AI and photogrammetry.
