Lowest common denominator right. Wow, Windows 7 reached it's end of life some time ago.😣 No matter what you use if you want to use the supported version of it you have to run it on the OS that's in support. Right now it's Windows 10/11. It's no different with Apple, Iphone, Android, etc. Maybe Linux. You can always reinstall Window XP and load up FSX. Good luck tweaking that old dog just to make it work. Do this day FSX performs terrible out the box on today's hardware. August 13, 20241 yr Whether or not XBox compatibility has affected the quality of MSFS on PC is not a question that I can answer, but I am extremely impressed that Asobo have optimised the graphics engine to the point where I can run the simulator at impressive detail levels and framerates on my i5 7600K powered PC. I am nowhere near the top end of PC technology these days, so the optimisation required for MSFS to run smoothly on XBox has paid big dividends for me. It takes 10 seconds to look at the steam hardware survey to showcase that developers still need to optimise their games to suffice the needs of the majority of the lowest common denominator in terms of hardware performance. Avsim with its plethora of 4090 and 7800X3D owners is not at all representative of what majority of PC users have. You cannot build a game with the hopes that a 4090 and frame generation can save it, that just speaks volumes to poor optimisation. Not to mention blocking the majority of gamers due to sheer negligence. Great point.👍 Most posting here aren't developers and have no idea of the process. Some don't remember FSX or any previous version of FS to appreciate having this title on something that forces optimization and a standard. XBOX levels the lowest common denominator more than anything and from there PC hardware at it's lowest is better than a console. With that you have a well-tuned base sim (minus Asobo hacking at it with each Sim Update). Makes a good playing field for add-on development which is far better than what we had in the past. August 13, 20241 yr I can see the reason for the parallel XBox implementation more in the fact, that here MS is earning a lot of money - AddOn developer have to pay a MS Marketplace fee to be present in the XBox world. In the PC enviroment this is avoidable by AddOn developers. Best regards. Ralf Andreas

Tech can not continue programming back forward to keep up with todays tech and being a developer you are you should know this. No I don't own a 4090 or a X7800d3 and run MSFS just fine but throttle software to go back 4/5 years and be current not good. There are people here at Avsim like @Christopher Low that can enjoy MSFS because it's so well optimized for older hardware. Read Christoper's comment here: That's not to say that MSFS needs to support hardware that is 10 years old. But I think being able to support hardware from 5 years ago, from the release date, is reasonable. Since MSFS was released in 2020, it should support hardware from 2015. And for MSFS 2024, being released in 2024, I think it should support hardware from 2019. Just my opinion (but you may have a different opinion). MSFS is moving forward with XBOX being the base standard, that's why we have MS2024. Concerning VR there's nothing new on Asobo's front. Performance is good it's just moving on from the blurry Reverb G2 to the Pimax Crystal Light. I'm still waiting on my delivery to see how it looks. If the blurriness is cleared up, performance in VR is actually quite good. You have to adjust your resolution to what your video card can handle and then dial in the sharpness. The Reverb G2 actually looks quite good for what I would call a more first generation headset where VR got it legs.🍺 VR is the future hands down and having XBOX as the base for sim optimized performance is a win win for VR meaning what's needed to run the base sim is not outrageous. Most people use 2D monitor's now and if Asobo upped the sim requirements to accommodate that market it would make the price of admission hardware wise like FSX was in the past. VR would be dead in the water.😶 I hope I'm making since. The way FS can move forward with amazing results is keeping the base sim optimized to the lowest platform which is XBOX, that gives much headroom for everything else we can build and use on top of it. Sure, and my question has always been: how much of the optimization to make MSFS perform on Xbox S has adversely influenced what those with top end hardware can get out of the sim. Shouldn't a slider be able to FULLY overcome what was done in the dumbing down, such that there is absolutely no downside to optimizing for low end hardware?
