October 11, 20241 yr Hello, In the beginning of this year I was using the 4090 with FG and 4K on a Sony TV with fps set at 60 max. That worked very well. I have sold the 4090 due to circumstances. Now I want to fly again but the 4090 is twice or more the money than a 4080 Super here in the Netherlands. Should the 4080 also be smooth with 4K and max 60FPS set in the Nvidia panel? Hope some can help me out with this. MSI Tomahawk Z790, I7-13700K, DDR5 6000mhz, MSI 4090, 3x SSD 980 PRO, Corsair 360 Liguid CPU cooler, Corsair H1200V2 power.
October 11, 20241 yr I don’t have either of these cards however, I think people are going to need more info, like what settings are you planning on running and what’s the full spec of the rig?

This worked super with a 4090. 60 FPS set as max and the use of DLSS FG. No issues with this combo. But like I said 4080S is around 1100 euro and the 4090 is 2200 minimal !! With the 60 fps set as max the 4090 was not working very hard so I was thinking why not go the 4080S route. 4K in setting with a mixture of Ultra and Max settings MSI Tomahawk Z790, I7-13700K, DDR5 6000mhz, MSI 4090, 3x SSD 980 PRO, Corsair 360 Liguid CPU cooler, Corsair H1200V2 power.

My specs are in my message footer below. In addition to nVidia FG, I also use the great AutoFPS app. I go for smoothness and do not obsess with frame rates. AutoFPS reports my frame rates with it are usually in the 80's and 90's and usually very smooth. I am either Ultra or High settings and of course DX12, which is required for FG. I pasted an image of my settings in the spoiler window of this reply. At 4K those settings are most realistic for me. I have even toned down the LOD settings in AutoFPS to the 200/100 you see in my settings, as I was seeing more detail than seemed realistic. Yesterday when flying the Blacksquare Analog Baron (Turbo) at 7,000 ft over Chicago, I started experiencing some micro stutters. I had flown over Chicago in the opposite direction two days earlier. I had several addon scenery items active via Addons Linker. The flight path included passing over or very near Drzewieckidesign's Chicago Landmarks, FSDT's O'Hare (KORD), and Drzewieckidesign's Chicago Midway (KMDW). Suspicious, I went into General settings, Data, and turned off Rolling Cache. Returned to the flight and it was totally smooth again. So smooth I will keep Rolling Cache off now. Chicago, and the Baltimore, Maryland, area, and the Denver, Colorado area, also with several high density scenery addons, are the most challenging and the combination of the 7800 X3D, the 4080S, FG, and AutoFPS has fully tamed them. October 11, 20241 yr FWIW I am Super pleased with my 4080 Super. I have FG on in the sim, frames locked at 48 in Riva Tuner and 3X in LSFG for frame a rate of 144 which matches my G-Sync 3440X 1440 monitor refresh rate. Smooth as the proverbial and rarely a stutter. October 11, 20241 yr Another one using a 4080 (classic) in 4K. Performance is never an issue due to the GPU, always the CPU dictating max. FPS. BUT: I regularly fill up the 16GB VRAM in 4K, even though I also use DLSS and AutoFPS and such. OT: this is the reason why I am already getting angry at nVIDIA, as it seems that the 5080 will again have only 16GB of VRAM. They are crippling the 5080 in cores and vram, it's basically the 5070 at 5080 prices. They want to milk the 5090 for $2500. I wish AMD could compete in the higher end. October 11, 20241 yr I just caught up on the 5000 series "leaks" and if accurate to any degree I am more than pleased with my purchase of and performance from my ASUS RTX 4080 Super. Fortunately I hold some investment shares ...... Though the annual dividends only amount to 3 hundreths of one percent. 😙 Edited October 11, 20241 yr by fppilot Frank Patton Corsair 5000D Airflow Case; MSI B650 Tomahawk MOB; Ryzen 7 7800 X3D CPU; ASUS RTX 4080 Super; NZXT 360mm liquid cooler; Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR5 4800 MHz RAM; RMX850X Gold PSU;; ASUS VG289 4K 27" Display; Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo, Crosswind 3's w/dampener. October 13, 20241 yr The RTX 4090 is also silly money, but it seems that plenty of flight simmers have purchased one. I would have to be a lottery winner to even think about shelling out well over £1500 for a graphics card. And they have no competition in the high end. At bare min the 5090 will be 2K. With 32 GB of Vram, it's basically a professional card. And plenty of people will buy it.
